The White Towns of Andalusia: Private Day Trip from Cádiz

7. The White Towns of Andalusia: Private Day Trip from Cádiz

The White Towns of Andalusia are a series of villages in southern Spain located mostly within the Sierra de Grazalema Natural Park. All of the villages are characterized by their whitewashed houses with red or brown tiled roofs. This private 8-hour tour begins with hotel pick-up in Cádiz. It is said that the houses are painted white to ward off the intense summer heat that affects the region. Historically, the darkest houses and those with poor air circulation had to be whitewashed by painters who had survived the bubonic plague. Lime mixed with water produces heat that kills microorganism. As a result, people living in villages whose houses were whitewashed escaped more diseases than those who did not. Although times have changed, the tradition is still alive and houses continued to be whitewashed as needed.

Thank you very much for this friendly and very competent tour around and through Cádiz by bike on October 31, 21st. The young and authentic Señorita Anita (four languages) was able to give us a lot of interesting, historical and modern information and answer questions, partly due to her extensive knowledge . Her commitment was impressive, she not only lives in this region, but has given her heart to Cádiz. This tour is recommended to everyone.

Nice ride with really nice people! The guide Manuel was very helpful, pleasing everyone. I would only take from the Jerez de la Fronteira itinerary....in addition to being very weak, the tour of the winery...the time we lost in Jerez we could have enjoyed much more in Cadiz...I was a little frustrated. That was the opinion of everyone on the tour. We were 8 people and we told this to the guide tb.

It was just the guide, Maria, plus the 2 of us, so a very intimate tour. Maria is a great guide and showed us around the landmarks of the old city, after putting everything in the perspective of the last ~3000 years. We enjoyed every minute

A magical day with a very professional and cultivated, attentive and very friendly guide, the visit of the cellar is very educational, the show is a must and the little tour in Cadiz instructive! A very serious and reliable company!

Excellent way to tour Cadiz! Might be better with 45 more minutes and other relevant visits. However, you get a feel for Cadiz!
