Know before you go

  •  This activity includes a considerable amount of walking at high altitude. Horses are available to be rented for part of the trip to help you up the mountain. Please note that the local partner does not offer this service, it must be arranged privately. Horses will take you to 200 meters from the top, then you will finish the climb. Price: 70 to 90 Soles, round-trip, cash only.
  •  The total walk up and down the mountain takes about 3 hours.
  • The trek is mostly flat, except for the ascent to the top, where it is very steep.
  •  Please note that due to the remoteness of the places, meals may be very simple. Both are offered as a courtesy as there are very limited options. Please do not expect luxury.

Without a doubt this trip was the highlight of my visit to Perú. The Rainbow Mountain and its surrounding are spectacular. It is a hard trek because of the altitude, but it is a must do. The guide was patient, and waited for those who were struggling with altitude etc. Also, he gave us plenty of time to enjoy the views once we reached the top. Lunch was also great, plenty of vegetarian options and good quality.

A lot of fun! Our guide was awesome! The breakfast and lunch were really good (especially lunch) and was a great start and finish to the long day. The ride was actually only 2 hours which was nice BUT it is VERY bumpy so sleeping is kind of tough. We took horses up to the mountain (one way 60 soles or round trip 80 soles) and then walked the last 10 min which was steep. Once you get up there it is well worth it! Up top, there are llamas and alpacas you can take photos with (they are free but you are encouraged to tip 1-2 soles) and food. I HIGHLY recommend you get the fried alpaca and potatoes! We walked the way back which was easy and quick. I recommend you book this trip if you are on the fence about it!

Awesome guide Rafaelo. Very congenial and immensely supportive if u r lagging behind during the hike and struggling with altitude sickness. He will constantly be with u and make sure u complete the hike. The breakfast and lunch were awesome and well presented by very hospitable chef and servers. Highly recommended tour.
