Full description

Find out more about Anne Frank on a small-group or private guided walking tour of Amsterdam, led by an expert guide. Discover the city’s centuries-old Jewish Quarter in a small group setting while your guide weaves in anecdotes about Anne Frank's life and World War II. You will hear all about Anne Frank’s family dynamics, their move from Germany, their time in hiding, and her father’s life after the war. Start the tour outside the Portuguese Synagogue, a 17th-century Sephardic construction that still functions as a synagogue today. Find out about the background of the original Jewish neighborhood and how it developed over the centuries. Your guide will share stories of Anne Frank’s love of writing, the conditions she lived through in 1930s and 1940s Amsterdam, and how her diary became so famous. You will also hear about the Dutch Resistance during the Second World War and see where secret hiding places were located. Over the course of the tour, you will walk by the Jewish Historical Museum, stop at the Auschwitz Monument and see the outside of the Anne Frank House façade. Finish the tour with a small surprise at a local Dutch cafe.

Our guide, Holly, was incredible. Very knowledgeable about the area, she added so much context to the sights we saw. Walking around Amsterdam felt different after the tour! We went on a Saturday, so we were unable to go into the Portuguese Synagogue, so make note of that! The tour begins near the Synagogue/ the Jewish Museum, so I’d recommend going to those sights beforehand, as the tour ends in central Amsterdam. It was very cold when we went, but our tour guide was very kind and paused the tour for a couple minutes in the middle for us to get some warm drinks. I’d highly recommend this tour!

Awesome guide! Loved how informative she was. When we entered the Anne Frank House later on our own, we were very familiar with the story thanks to the guide (unfortunately I can't recall her name, so sorry!!) Loved how she shared so many things like the little plaques on the pavements to honor those that had been murdered. Great experience indeed!

Knowledgeable and very efficient tour guide. Kept a steady pace and we got to see many important highlights of the nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Our guide was very calm and collected when dealing with an aggressive foreign (Greek) family group who constantly nagged her to move along faster. It’s a tour, not a race. I thoroughly enjoyed every moment of the tour, and it’s important that we don’t lose perspective on the evil deeds of the past so as they are not repeated. A “must see” for history buffs,
