    The process of boarding a vessel is unclear. No marking on any boat, inaccurate times. Coins must be prepared to pay entrance fees to the islands (pay before boarding a boat). Entrance to palaces and gardens for a fee. It is possible to purchase a ticket at the box office on the island (it is possible to combine several islands) or online and save waiting in queue.

    Very enjoyable day. Be ready for some confusion when trying to find the correct boat that takes you from island to island. Eventually it always worked out on time. We took our dog along (no ticket needed for him). Proved to be a complication, as the visit to the gardens and the palaces is not permitted for pets and there is no place to leave them. On Isola Madre the only option was to spend the time in the sole restaurant available.

    Hop-On-Hop-Off boat tour was very good. We booked tickets online, and it would have been helpful to have some kind of guide book or pamphlet letting us know boat dock color, pick-up times at each island, and what there is to see on each island. Since we purchased online, we were left on our own & had to figure it out for ourselves.
