    When the tourists have returned to their hotels you’ll be heading out on this late afternoon tour of Meteora. Visit a monastery and see other places that only locals know. Marvel at the amazing views and hear about the history and traditions of this special place. On this unique 4-hour tour you’ll see the thousand-year-old Bandovas hermitages inside caves high up on the rocks and hear the amazing story of one of the most ancient churches in Greece, the Byzantine Church of the Virgin Mary in Kalambaka. The church building was once an ancient temple dedicated to the god Apollo. Enjoy panoramic views from the perfect spot in Meteora to see the sunset. As the sun slowly sinks below the horizon the magnificent rocky landscape of Meteora comes to life. It becomes easy to understand why the site was chosen for these monasteries.

    • The monasteries have a strict dress code. Men must wear trousers and long sleeves, and women must wear a long skirt. If you turn up wearing shorts, trousers will be provided.
    • Closed-toed shoes and a camera are recommended.
    • This is semi-independent tour. The guide/driver will not enter the monasteries but will provide information outside the sites.

    Jim was an excellent guide and he explained the history of the monasteries with humor, knowledge, and beautiful photos. It was a small group, 15 of us, and he personalized the tour by calling us by name. We visited many stunning vistas and one monastery. I left with a sense of wonder. It was an amazing place with a knowledgeable guide.

    Excellent! Great explanation of the variety of monasteries and more specially of the frescoes and imaging you can find inside. Apart from that everything was carefully explained how Meteora got its current shape. To top this off with plenty of time during all this to take pictures during riding and at the sunset place in the end. Very modern bus to drive us around and excellent driving.

    Very good disposition and kindness on the part of the guide and the driver. I would have liked to be more in Meteora, we arrived a little late at sunset and they only left us for 30 minutes, we went to that but a large part of the Tour was dedicated to visits to monasteries and respective talks, which I think could be shorter.
