9. From Rome: Amalfi Coast Private Day Trip by Train and Car

A car and driver will pick you up at the Naples train station where you will continue the visit to the Amalfi Coast. This area of Italy is one of the most beautiful places in the world, where the mountains rush vertically to an unimaginably blue sea. A place of intense colours - of yellow lemon trees and green cactus plants. Our driver will take you to first Positano, the famous picturesque town with its narrow streets, tumbling down to the azure waters Mediterranean. From there we'll head to the town of Amalfi and continue to the town of Ravello sitting on the peaks of the mountain overlooking into the sea. On our way back to Rome we'll pass through the vertiginous Monti Lattari - reaching these peaks will give you a splendid view of the coastline. It is the landscape, art, history, speech of the people, and the local flavors that characterize a land. We must also speak of the colors because there is truly a specific luminosity in the Mediterranean sun and sea. Meeting the great mountains, it creates a play of colors with infinite gradations: the intensity of the Mediterranean. They are the colors of the lemon trees, the waves that break against the cliffs, the varieties of cactus that are always green and dry the mountain rocks. In this land where the mountains rush vertically to a sea more blue that you have ever imagined and the streets wedged along the mountainside unfold in a continuous surprising play of unexpected panoramas at each new curve, we find some of the most beautiful coast in the world that in some ways still preserves the memory and the flavor of old fishing villages. Arriving in Positano at the summit of this picturesque little town, we will descend slowly toward the beach by way of small narrow streets and ancient alleyways, with little houses of vibrant colors facing the sea on unimaginable terraces suspended over the void. Passing by typical shops of ceramics and fabrics, and fragrant gardens of orange and lemon trees, we will come to the church of Santa Maria dell'Assunta whose dome is covered in colored majolica. Then we will proceed to Amalfi, a town that preserves important memories of its past as a maritime republic. Around the 10th century it saw a period of splendor thanks to the sea trade in the Mediterranean and their control of some important ports. The Duomo of St. Andrea and the Cloister of Paradise are the most important examples that we will visit, in addition to the streets and the shops of traditional products on the sea. We will return by way of Monti Lattari, reaching the peek of these high mountains that race to the sea, and from which there is a truly spectacular view of the entire peninsula of Sorrento, the coast, and the sea. From here we will be able to fully appreciate the beauty of the landscape, the audacity of those who crossed these waters in sail boats with only the wind and their knowledge. From here you will also be able to take great pictures of these dream-like places.

Well organized trip with wonderful guide. Met at train station for comfortable 1 1/2 trip to Salerno in high-speed , clean , comfortable modern train . Then walked over to marina for ferry ride to Amalfi with wonderful views of the coast . Once there up to the lemon grove for the limoncello tasting . About 200 steps but worth it for the views and the limoncello demonstration and tasting . Mauro is very knowledgeable about the area’s history and we did a brief walking tour of the town then plenty of time for shopping and strolling . Back on the ferry to Positano for more great coastal views and wonderful lunch at Chez Black . Mauro gave us great advice on sights , shopping , and eating places and they were spot on . After lunch plenty of time for shopping , gelato , and people watching . Would really recommend this ferry option . The towns look amazing from the water and are relatively short rides from town to town and with a guide like Mauro makes it even better. Thank you Mauro !

A perfect day! Our guide Federico was friendly, welcoming, and knowledgeable. He went above and beyond to give us suggestions and make sure we had a good time. We spent about 2 hours in Amalfi and 2 hours in Positano. It was so wonderful to have someone else to organize the day and worry about transportation. All that we had to do was show up and enjoy ourselves. The Limoncello orchard was an exceptionally unique experience. It was a private visit to a family farm. It was a peek into the life of locals on Italy’s coast. We were skeptical that it would feel to rushed and the day would be too long, but everything was just right. Do this tour!!!

Meet up at Roma Termini was easy and the train accommodations to Napoli were very clean and comfortable. The trou of Pompeii was fun, engaging, and full of fascinating info from our stellar guide, Antonio Mosca. Gorgeous sunny weather for Dec 20th and plenty of time for pictures and questions. The lunch at DeMedici was lovely and very tastefully conducted with the sommelier leading us through the wine tasting. My husband, 18 yr old, and two 13 yr olds all had a wonderful day and enjoyed the trip immensely. It was a highlight of our week in Italy.

We had a great time for it being the first time we’ve done a city tour! We were in a large group, but we broke up and Franceska was our guide. She was wonderful. Very knowledgeable and caring. She gave great instruction and also made sure everyone got an opportunity to spend their time experiencing each location. Our favorite part was the boat ride itself. Though nothing out of the ordinary, just the views were breathtaking.

Wonderful trip so many beautiful places to see and very convenient to book! Loved it all
