Interesting ancient mosaic tiles floor inside Madaba Christian Church, and traditional production of mosaic tiles in local factory. Mount Nebo as last place visited by Moses to oversee the "promised land", good for Christian believers to visit. Our driver picked us up promptly at our hotel in Amman and drove us to Madaba, where we visited a beautiful church with ancient mosaics. Then we proceeded (optionally) to a "mosaic school" where we briefly watched students creating mosaics and pottery. We were offered tea or coffee. Then we were able to purchase items if we chose. We were told that proceeds benefited charitable causes. Next we were driven to Mount Nebo. Lots of history there. It was hazy in the afternoon so we did not see the "Promised Land" but the site was clean and well kept. There is a modern church there in which Mass was being held so we were respectfully quiet. There are ancient mosaics laid out on the floor of the church. Bear in mind that this tour was for transportation only. At both Madaba and Nebo there are opportunities to hire guides for a small fee. Having ridden in taxis and with other drivers in and around Amman we felt safe in the vehicle with our very courteous driver. Buy the Jordan Wanderer Pass!
