From Anchorage: Matanuska Glacier Full-Day Tour

1. From Anchorage: Matanuska Glacier Full-Day Tour

Experience the beauty and awe of the Matanuska Glacier on a full-day trip from Anchorage. Drive the Glenn Highway up the Matanuska Valley along the Matanuska River. The glacier is 100 miles from Anchorage, so there are vast open vistas to enjoy along the way when the weather is clear. Check in at the Glacier Park office and take advantage of the indoor restrooms before heading up to the trailhead. Drive to the initial view of the breathtaking glacier. Collect your safety equipment - ice spikes/crampons for your shoes year-round plus helmets in the summer. Then head out with an experienced glacier guide. In winter (late November through April) you will load onto sleds and enjoy a slow, safe snow machine ride out to the magnificent blue ice. In summer (May through early November) experience a longer, more strenuous hike. Go home with a suite of epic photos and fantastic memories. This tour is a full eight-plus hours and operates snow or shine. If the weather in Anchorage is poor, the area near the glacier is often better. Other tours may say they'll deliver an experience of a lifetime, but this one truly does.

What people are saying about Anchorage

From the reservation to the final drop off, 907 was first rate. Lori, our driver communicated with us and was punctual for pick-up. The van was comfortable and had 9 passengers. ON our drive to Matanuska Glacier, Lori told us about Anchorage, the history, and the people and lifestyle of the residents. We had a brief rest stop in Palmer with the final stop at the glacier. Once we were given helmets and poles, we were on our way to the most amazing adventure I have experienced. The guide was informative, personable, and helpful when needing assistance to navigate some of the steep, icy trails. Lori also helped to make sure everyone in the group was safe and enjoying themselves. This was a definite unforgetable experience that I would highly recommend for your family. Matanuska glacier is amazing!

The staff notified in a timely manner that the dog sledding part was not going to be possible due to bad weather and it is excellent thinking of the client's safety, however the passage by helicopter and to the glacier was possible and the attention and explanation of safety and the Shine pilot were excellent. The kindness of the pilot was very nice and his explanations on the flight and on the glacier were extraordinary. They provided us with a device for special footwear to walk on the glacier. The tour on the glacier was excellent, I 100% recommend this tour!

An absolute highlight during our five days in Anchorage. With Lori we had a great guide. Very nice and willing to help, lots of information about the country and its people. The glacier tour was awesome. Equipped with spikes and a helmet, we climbed the glacier in a total of three hours. An absolute recommendation!

This was amazing, suggest planning it towards the end of your trip so it is a highlight. Dogs run in the Iditarod!

very knowledgeable guide and clear enthusiasm in sharing ALASKA with us
