Full description
You’ll be picked up at your centrally located Athens hotel and begin your full-day and zero-carbon tour with a visit to Panathinaikos Stadium, where the first modern Olympic Games were held in 1896. Pass by the Prime Minister’s residence and the former Royal Palace, which is still guarded by the colorfully garbed Evzone soldiers. You’ll see the historically important Zappion building, now a conference and exhibition hall, before arriving at the Temple of Olympian Zeus, completed in 131 A.D. The tour continues past the National Gardens to Hadrian’s Arch and on to the Parliament. You’ll also pass by the National Academy, the National Library, the Old Parliament, Constitution Square, and the Russian Orthodox Church. Marvel at the Acropolis, built in the 5th century B.C. Visit the Propylaea Gateway, the Temple of Athena Nike, the Parthenon, and the Erechtheum with its famous Porch of Maidens. Take a short, pleasant walk past the Herodion and Dionysos theaters to the new Acropolis Museum. The museum houses more than 4,000 artifacts from the Acropolis site, and its exhibits cover the Greek Bronze Age as well as the Roman and Byzantine periods.

The tour was great. Our tour guide knew Spanish fluidly and her knowledge of Greek history was quite impressive. We were really glad we purchased the tour because there is a LOT to learn and see in the Acropolis and in the museum that you can't really do by yourself. The stop at the Panathenaic Stadium was too short, just 10min. I wish we had more time. The Acropolis Museum is massive and quite nice. IMPORTANT: they make you store your backpacks in the cloakroom. I forgot to take out my phone and did the entire tour inside the museum phoneless, which is a shame because there is a lot of interesting stuff going on. Still loved the experience. Since we were staying at an Airbnb, we were asked to meet them at their offices. It was a bit crazy there. We saw the Spanish bus, told them that was ours, they told us it wasn't and to sit tight until our names were called. Waited for 10-15 minutes, called our names and told us to get on that same bus. Other than that, we had an amazing time.

Overall the Athens city tour was good. While our guide was very knowledgeable and kind, she struggled a bit to keep the group organized among the large crowds. Also we were told to arrive at 8:15am but did not start until after 9:30am, which forced the tour to feel very rushed.

Very professionally done. Guide was excellent. The headphones had some issues, probably need to upgrade that aspect. The line at acropolis was crazy due to Easter weekend. Our guide overcame by flipping our tour to start at museum. It was great, we entered quickly and had so much information prior to entering the actual site. This made for a greater appreciation of the ruins. I thought I had purchased skip the line, Advice from me: pay attention that when your tour shopping that yours provides “skip the line” sure is worth it! Luckily, in spite of my oversight, our guide was able to make our trip happen quickly in spite of long lines. Was well worth the $$ to have an experienced guide for this once in a lifetime experience!!!
