Your trip starts by redeeming your train e-ticket (received via email shortly after your booking) for the morning 07:57 train departure from the Central Railway Station of Athens to Kalabaka.

After the scenic train ride through the beautiful Greek countryside, you will arrive at Kalabaka’s train station at 12:03.

You will then board in a comfortable VIP minibus in order to begin an unforgettable journey to this true wonder called Meteora. During this guided tour you will have the opportunity to see all six magnificent monasteries and admire the interior of three of them. View some of Meteora’s most spectacular hidden gems like the ancient Chapel of Doupiani and the magnificent St. George “Mandilas” cave. At around 16:45 get taken back to Kalabaka’s train station (or at a nearby local restaurant if the optional lunch is selected). This is a must see attraction! The monasteries are breathtaking and engineering marvel. Our guide, Maria, was amazing and our driver as super alert. Maria was super friendly, knowledgeable, and professional. The itinerary was well planned. You take the first train to Kalabaka at 7:57 and arrive around noon. Yes, the train is long, but there’s a cafe car for light food and beverages. Maria and driver were waiting for us at the train station. We made a stop in town to get a quick bite and then headed to the first monastery. You see all six but only tour the inside of three. Two are for nuns. Tour finishes @4:30 and they take you back to town so you can get dinner before the 6:30 train back to Athens. This was one of the highlights of our time in Athens.

Our tour guide Maria was phenomenal, we had an excellent driver and before the start of our train ride we have an agent Dimitrius who was exceptional. He went above and beyond is call of duty to ensure that the entire group would be on the same tour and even at the end he checked to ensure that we had arrived safely back into Athens. It was great but the staff was more amazing!

I really enjoyed the tour guide and visiting the amazing scenery. I do think everyone should go see Meteora at least once in their life! I think as a day trip it is a VERY long day. Also, if clear directions were given on how to get to the Larissa train station, that would be great, we got lost! (For future trip-goers, take the red line metro from the Plaka!) I would recommend going for sure, but maybe opt for an overnighter.
