Full description

Head to Cape Sounion to explore the Archaeological Site of Sounion and the Temple of Poseidon on a guided trip from Athens, with hotel transfers and entry fees included. See remnants of an ancient town and learn about the Golden Age of Athens from your guide.

Start with a bus ride along the scenic coastal road. Enjoy splendid views of the Saronic Gulf while passing through some of Athen's most beautiful suburbs such as Glyfada, Vouliagmeni, and Varkiza. Arrive at Cape Sounion, a historically significant area of Greece. The steep cliffs offer sweeping panoramic views, and on a clear day, you can see the surrounding islands. Enter the archaeological site and visit the 5th-century BC Temple of Poseidon, dedicated to the God of the Sea in Greek mythology. Made of white marble, the columns still stand today as a reminder of the Athenian Empire. After experiencing the monuments and ruins of ancient Greece, relax on the drive back to Athens.

I was interested in seeing the views along the way, as well as the site itself, so this tour suited me perfectly. The drive took a bit over 1 hour each way and we got to spend about 1 hour at the Temple which was a good amount of time. The whisperers (headsets) were not in very good condition so it was hard to hear what the tour guide was saying.

The bus came to pick us up almost 40 minutes late due to the heavy traffic in Athens. Nevertheless, the driver and the guide were very friendly. After quick explanations/words of history given on the site, we had a little more than 30 minutes of solo time to be able to visit at our own pace and take pictures. I recommend !

Brilliant transport going to the temple, took around 1 hr 20 mins to get there with wonderful sites along the way. Your guide filled the time by telling stories from Ancient Greek mythology, the Illiad and the Odyssey. The temple itself is wonderful to behold with a gorgeous backdrop of the Aegean.
