Full description

Discover the archaeological site and museum of Delphi on a day trip from Athens. Follow your guide to some of the most prominent edifices on the sacred slopes of Delphi including the temple of Apollo, the ancient theater, the stadium, and the various treasuries that adorn the sacred way.

Depart Athens and drive for 2 hours to Levadia. Hop off the bus at your first stop for a stretch and refreshments (at your own expense). Continue to Arachova, a town famous for its bright multi-colored carpets, before reaching Delphi.

Head to the foot of Mount Parnassus to the sanctuary of Delphi, once home to the most famous oracle in Ancient Greece. Set in a spectacular landscape, see what was a cultural and religious center for the Greek world for centuries.

Visit this historic archaeological site with ruins dating back to the 4th century B.C. Start with the ruins of the incredible Temple of Apollo followed by the ancient theater, featuring 35 rows and space for up to 5000 spectators.

Then, head to the Delphi Museum to see more archeological treasures, including the unique bronze statue of the Charioteer dedicated to Apollo in 478 B.C. After your guided visit, enjoy an hour of free time before boarding the bus for your return trip to Athens.

We had an excellent time going to Delphi with Vicki. She gave us so much great information on Greek history, mythology, culture, and food. She also showed us the archaeological site of Delphi in great detail, so we came away with an appreciation of the significance of the site to Mediterranean and world history.

Well rounded trip! Everything was organized properly. We travelers by high quality bus with A/C. Guide was bilingual and spoke in English and French. Each point od tour was fulfilled. Guide was helpful and told us some stories and facts to keep people engaged. I don't advise to take the lunch extension as you can be dropped instead by the bus at a place with several places around where you can eat what your want. There is one stop between Athens and Delphi to visit a bathroom (the same on way home). Instead of mobile app we were given small wireless receivers and earpiece. They were working well. Overall there was nothing to complain about.

Tour was good! It took about 3 hours from Athens to get there with a quick stop to get some food and coffee. We walked for about 20 minutes with some explanation at the sites and then we left for an hour to wander and go up to the stadium. I wish there would have been more explanation about the temple like how it would have been used by the oracle and things but… we then met in front of the museum and again quickly walked through with no free time to look around and not even a stop at the gift shop. We had an hour lunch break and back on the bus. On the way back we stopped through a little town and I would have rather used that time at Delphi. Overall it was good but not great and would have liked more explanation!
