From Bangkok: Ayutthaya & Khao Yai National Park Day Trip

3. From Bangkok: Ayutthaya & Khao Yai National Park Day Trip

Enjoy a full-day trip out of Bangkok, explore the impressive monuments and temple ruins built during the Ayutthaya era. Make your first stop at Wat Yai Chai Mongkhon to see the 42-meter-long reclining white Buddha. Then, head to Wat Phra Mahathat to spot the famous tree that has grown around a Buddha's head. Take a selfie with the Buddha's head, but make sure you sit on your knees to show respect, as it is considered holy by Thais. Continue to Wat Phra Si Sanphet, the largest temple in Ayutthaya, known for its distinctive row of restored chedis. Housed within the grounds of the former royal palace, the temple was used only for royal religious ceremonies. The three Chedis are very elegant, and the whole place gives a good impression of what it may have looked like before the city was destroyed. You then make another stop in Ayutthaya at Wihan Phra Mongkhon Bophit. This is one of the biggest Buddha images in Thailand, with a lap measurement at 9.55 meters and a height of 12.45 meters. It is a good model of the Buddha image during the end of Ayutthaya reign. From there, continue to a local restaurant, where you will be served authentic Thai dishes. Move on to Khao Yai National Park and stop at Haew Narok Waterfall to see a beautiful view of the waterfall by walking just 1 kilometer from the main road. Taking a safe trail down the cliff, continue to the Visitor Center to hear about the park’s history and attractions. The final stop is KM 30 Viewpoint on Thanarat Road, and after the wonderful journey, you will return to your hotel in Bangkok, arriving at around 6:30 PM.

Pan and Titi made a fantastic team, and we had a great day with them! Our tour actually occurred in reverse order, with a visit to the monkey temple first and then Ayutthaya temples afterwards. The monkeys were certainly memorable, though on the day we were there they were a little aggressive so we did not linger with them very long. The temples were so beautiful, and Pan did an excellent job teaching us about Thai Buddhism and history - we learned a lot! We also appreciated that Pan and Titi were flexible when we needed to end our day a little earlier than expected, condensing the tour so that we still got to see the greatest hits!

Jill was the very best tour guide on this unique adventure. Our first stop was the monkey temple, which was unlike anything I have seen before. Jill really took great care to provide both the historical and current information to make it interesting. Our second stop was the ancient city and its temples. The many cultural connections and details really set this trip apart from others. Jill, we appreciate you and your knowledge. Thank you for making this so memorable!

fantastic trip, Ayutthaya is 100% worth the visit, there were plenty of cheaper options but this one having our guide made it that bit easier he explained everything to us very good knowledge and took some excellent photos I was slightly skeptical about adding on the monkey tour as it added the price up however now I look back it was a highlight of our trip, amazing experience and memories and massive thank you to our guide he was brilliant
