Full description
Head away from the regular tourist itinerary and get off the beaten track on this 2-hour cycling tour through the black lava stones of Mount Batur. Ride for 11 kilometers (almost 7 miles) along a track surrounded by fantastic views of both the ocean and mountains. Experience the altogether different thrill of cycling around this sacred volcano's rim, whether you've already hiked up it or not. Following pickup from your accommodation, enjoy breakfast at a restaurant before the transfer to Bungklambu on the west of the largest lake in Bali, Lake Batur. Pass by the recent volcanic area on the way then hop on to your mountain bike to begin your cycling tour. Ride through rocky black lava left over from past eruptions on the most challenging track that Mount Batur can offer. Follow your local guide through Batur UNESCO Global Geopark, unique for being a “caldera within a caldera”. The two craters present a complete volcanic landscape with walls, cones, geothermal phenomena, a lake, lava flows, and more. Stop at one of the hot springs that fall under this unique terrain to soothe your muscles after the adventure. Next, make your way to Toya Bungkah Village and enjoy the beauty and fresh air of the mountain and the lake. Conclude this journey at a natural hot spring where you can just relax and admire the clear blue water of the spring.

A great and well planned tour! We liked that it was different and off the beaten sunrise trek path. We cycled through the black lava, around the island to the temple, and ended in the hot springs. A great way to end a morning of exercise, nature, and culture. Everything was well organised and varied, and Wayan and Kadek were very helpful and patient. Thanks for a wonderful time!

The cycling tour is tougher than what we imagined, some roads were rough and rocky, and also narrow unlike the pictures. If you’re not an experienced cyclist, it’s impossible to ride on these roads. We had to get off the bikes and walk with them. The sightseeing spot is beautiful though, I think it would be perfect if we can park our bikes and hike into the black lava (where the rocky paths are). Our cycling guide, Wayan was very helpful and accommodating, he also helped us carry drinks and is always keeping a lookout for us as we have to ride on the road beside cars. Even though the cycling journey was different from expected, it was a nice experience. The hot spring was different from the photo as we couldn’t see Mt Batur directly. I believe the photo was a hot spring next to the one we went. Nevertheless, it was an enjoyable one, and there were a lot of hot spring pools to dip in, so you can enjoy some private space even if there are some other people around.

I had a great time. My driver Puti picked me up and was great. He told me about local culture and what life was like farming in Bali. I met my Guide Wayan (who is another great knowleagable guy) who gave me my bike, water and helmet and off we went. He took me off into the amazing lava landscape.. absolutely beautiful. Unfortunately the mountain bike route had been shortened due to people complaining that it was too difficult. Maybe give a choice when booking? Wayan agreed to take me a little further which was greatly appreciated. We then rode on to an stunning temple in the lake and then to the hotsprings where I left Wayan. The springs were a little more touristy then I was expecting. But the dip to refresh was very welcome. From there, Puti took me on to the fantastic Amora Bali Restaurant which is sat on the lip of the volcano crater with magnificent views across to Mount Batur and beyond. The food was amazing. After eating my fill at the buffet lunch we headed home.
