This was an amazing experience, I'd definitely recommend if you're going to Barcelona and are looking for a day trip out of the city. The scenery is amazing and I hadn't seen anything like it before. Firstly the journey to getting there is super exciting once you get off the train from Barcelona as you draw close to the mountain. Then the rack railway is so fun (option to do cable car too but you need to pick one or the other)! The audiovisual activity is really good as it gives you some history and background about the monastery - it's included in this ticket. The monastery was really nice and there weren't as many people in November so had a peaceful walk around. Then we got the funicular to go further up and explore the pathways in the mountain. This was amazing but if you want to reach the very top peak allow enough time to make your way down in time to catch all transport you need. Would recommend researching these ahead of going as you won't get a lot of info in your ticket!

A must see but could use clearer directions for transit

The trip itself is a must see and beautiful. My only recommendation is that they help travelers understand the transit better. The Espanya train station is underground. Since I had taken a cab instead of a bus to the station, I was wondering around above ground looking for this “station”. Once underground it got easier because the signs clearly marked to the way to the R5. However, I would indeed get there early and go to the end of the platform when the train arrives to ensure you have a seat because the train fills very quickly with daily commuters. I definitely recommend taking the first train in the morning. I was able to get there before the crowds and enjoy a mountain all to myself as I took the rail all the way to the top first and did the hikes before exploring the buildings. The card they give you when you pick up your ticket at the information booth does get you on anything travel wise which makes it easy. The return trip was much easier.

    Excellent!

Getting by train from Barcelona Espanya station to Montserrat proved to be way easier than expected. The best thing is with this ticket you decide how much time to spend in Montserrat. You can order and pay online and pick up your tickets from one of the Tourism kiosks at Plaza Catalunya.... Highly recommended!!!
