    The Berlengas archipelago is situated 16km west of Peniche, a powerful granite block which belongs to the parish of St. Peter, in the Peniche municipality. The archipelago is a protected area that includes various nature reserves and is considered a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve since 2011. Depart from the harbor of Peniche and enjoy a 30-minute ferry ride along the turquoise sea waters. Arrive at the Berlengas harbor from where you will be able to freely explore the archipelago. Start with a visit to the São João Baptista fort built in the 17th-century. This little fort is one of the most visually striking buildings in Portugal. After this, go for a swim at Praia do Carreiro do Mosteiro, the only beach that is accessible and safe to swim from. Next, find the café and restaurant on the island before taking the ferry back to Peniche

    Know before you go

    •  According to Ordinance NO. 19/2022 from January 5th, it is required for customers to register on ICNF (https://berlengaspass.icnf.pt/) to be able to visit Berlenga Island. It is advised that the customers make the registration first, and then make the booking with GetYourGuide
    • This tour is not recommended for people with limited mobility
    • You need to be at the meeting point 30 minutes prior to the departure
    •  You will exchange your voucher for a physical ticket before departure
    • It's advisable to bring plenty of water as it can get very hot
    • The morning departure leaves at 9:00 AM and returns at 1:30 PM from August 1 to Sept 15. The rest of the year it leaves at 10:00 AM and returns at 3:00 PM
    • The afternoon departure only works from August 1 to Oct 5. It leaves at 3:00 PM and returns at 6:30 PM

    Bring a small backpack and sneakers so you can walk around the island. It is very small, half a day is more than enough if you don't do other activities like visiting the caves. The beach is very small and if you want to chill you may have not space to do it.

    Very beautifull!!!! Not for those looking for comfort or activities to do ... here there is nature, and for those who love the sea and trekking (easy - T) 4 hours are perfect to get around it, stop to take pictures and enjoy a snack at the bar. The guys from Berlengatur were amazing, precise and caring, even Miss Julia from the super precise and helpful office. To do!!!

    It was super easy to book ahead. Great trip if you want something different. The island is a big rock but beautiful with a pirate fort and a few interesting passages/ caves and rock formations a sweet little beach and a nice walking route. The cruise itself wasn't spectacular and the explanations were chattered out in Portuguese and if you're lucky you might see a dolphin along the way. But the island is not very big and you just have to get back to the boat in time. The glass boat is also only in Portuguese. And you don't see any fish. But the island is beautiful and you sail through a pirate passage and around the fort so for 8 euros it is fun to do, if you don't expect too much.
