Berlin: Hohenschönhausen Memorial Guided Tour & Transfers

1. Berlin: Hohenschönhausen Memorial Guided Tour & Transfers

Join a group tour of the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial to learn about the political persecution in post-war East Germany. Explore the site of the main remand prison for people detained by the Ministry State Security (Stasi). Hear the untold story of Berlin during the Cold War era. Your group will be guided by a former inmate or a historian, giving you the most authentic account of the prison between 1951 and 1989. Still shrouded in mystery, the tour of the original prison buildings and exhibits will offer a reliable impression of the horrific and absurd life of the prison. You'll find that the permanent exhibition displays personal objects and photographs of the former political prisoners, revealing their personal memories of the physical violence and psychological torture of the ‘House of Horror’. Gain an insight into the lives and motives of Stasi, the largest secret police in the world at that time. It will be a great lesson on the importance of freedom and democracy. The 3-hour tour includes a pickup and drop-off by a private vehicle, so you can avoid public transport and get to the Berlin-Hohenschönhausen Memorial in time for your experience to begin. After the tour, the driver will take you back to your accommodation.

This was a great tour with Steffen, I definitely recommend it!!

We were thrilled by everything that Steffen knew and showed us. Parts of East Berlin without Plattenbaus, that we hadn't previously known about, lots of history about the East/West divide both before and after the Wall. You'd never be able to find all this out on your own. Very good bikes, punctual, professional, worth recommending! We'd been in Berlin many times, but we'd never seen so much on a tour- therefore, we'd definitely book with this provider again. Monika and Erika from Southern Germany

Great organisation, great tour, really good bikes

Firstly we were fitted with the right bikes. At the starting point there were a lot of guests. At the starting point you could see that the groups were of different sizes. We were lucky that our tour was very individual. My wife and I had Marcus as our private guide, so we learnt a lot at the designated info points and on the wayside. The bikes were new and well serviced. The hub gears are enough for the ride through the city. The ride was all in all very relaxed. I recommend this tour.

In a small, well-led group we saw a lot and received some new impressions

Discovering Berlin by bike is worth doing per se, you see a lot and you're in the middle of all of it. The small group size was great, since it makes it easy to get around Berlin and to listen to Steffen's vivid information. In addition the 'sundry' tour offers a different view of Berlin. We were fitted out with good bikes and we enjoyed it, we relished that it went beyond the tired tourist track, we saw, heard, and learned a lot of new things.

Very interesting and informative, well-organized.

The roughly 20 kilometer route was easy and comfortable to ride down. The comfortable bikes played a big part in this, as did the fact that there wasn't a lot of traffic that Saturday afternoon. The selected spots provided a good overview of (east) Berlin both past and present, and above all of the remarkable history of this formerly divided city. We also especially enjoyed our guide Ference's lively and authentic descriptions and stories.

Brilliant, made lots of things interesting on a personal level

Great bike team. Provided great information, and our tour was tailored to our requests. Small group, WE were the only ones in ours. Would go again anytime, there are more really interesting tours. Thank you very, very much, special thanks to our tour guide Markus.
