Full description
Since the early 1920s, the area round Nollendorfplatz has been one of the most famous gay neighborhoods in the world. Nowhere else in Berlin was there a greater density of simple pubs and dance halls, sophisticated bars and clubs exclusive to the gay community. Come along to tour the remaining traces of this historic world in the north of Schöneberg and learn about the people that thronged this multifaceted gay and lesbian district between the end of World War I and the accession of the Nazi Party. The quarter began to bloom again as West Berlin's only gay district from the end of the 1960s, up to the present day. Schöneberg is still known for its particularly tolerant attitude and its variety, characteristics which, 100 years ago, contributed to the area's fame, notoriety, and attractiveness for the local and international community. Join in with this fascinating tour on a trip through time, and discover the Queer history of Berlin.

Awesome lesson on LGBT history in Berlin!

A quite thorough walk covering quite a bit of material. There's opportunity to sit, stand, walk, ask questions, stand around and experience the area, and learn about what went on there. The guide is excellently prepared and knowledgable and the allotted time didn't seem as long as it was. Well worth participating!

Super interesting and creative tour!

We had such a lovely day with Tobias and were really impressed by his knowledge, tour route and presentation. You can really tell that this topic is a genuine passion of his and he was open to answering our questions as we walked along. We were also really impressed to experience so much lesbian and queer history along the tour and loved all of the visual materials that Tobias brought along to add to the experience. This little tour is a true Berlin gem and we would recommend it to anyone looking to uncover a more unique perspective on the city's fascinating history.

Fantastic tour - a real gem!

We had a great tour around the area with Tobias, taking in the sights and finding out about the local gay history. Tobias's local knowledge was incredible (as was his English) and he gave us a spirited account of how things used to be as well as insights into how they are now. Can't recommend this tour enough!
