Experience the best travel stories for yourself! Join a local expert and uncover hidden gems on this Lonely Planet Experience. Meet your local guide in front of the Reichstag. Hear the amazing story of the German parliament, and get up close and personal to some of the original sites of the apocalyptic Battle of Berlin in 1945, which put an end to the horrors of Nazi Germany. As you explore the streets of Berlin, see the political changes that have occurred over the decades and gain further insight into modern Berlin culture. The guides have their own pictures, original documents, as well as old and new maps, which make this Berlin walking tour experience all the more memorable, and makes our stunning city’s past come alive! Learn more about the countless historical events and landmarks that have made Berlin what it is today. Brandenburg Gate and the beautiful Pariser Platz are a couple of the famous places you'll get to see on this walking adventure. Visit the Memorial to the murdered Jews of Europe, a strong emotional expression of Germany dealing with the holocaust and the troubled aspects of its past. See Hitler's bunker, where he hid out during the final battle of World War II. Step back in time as you pass by former Nazi Ministries, the Topography of Terror, and Checkpoint Charlie. Over a sample of the original Berlin Currywurst, hear stories of Cold War, GDR fugitives, and day-to-day life in divided Germany. You'll also visit a remainder of the Berlin Wall. Then check out what is widely regarded as the most beautiful square in Berlin: Gendarmenmarkt. Check out Friedrichstraße and Unter den Linden; the historic location where the infamous book burning of 1933 took place. Then head off to Berlin's Humboldt University, the most famous in our city. Next take a stroll along one of the city’s most well-known grand boulevards, Friedrichstraße, where some of the city’s top shops can be found. Your tour will end at what is widely regarded as the most beautiful place in Berlin: Gendarmenmarkt, site of three impressive buildings: The German and the French Cathedral and Schinkel's Konzerthaus (concert hall), which takes you back to the Prussian times.

Waste of money

High expectations - big disappointment. No indepth presentation of amazing Berlin history, just a cursory recital of basic common knowledge facts. Huge negative contrast with another walking tour - Potsdam - with knowledgeable & entertaining Alex of Berlinwalks. It was also nearly 3.5 times more expensive! All of 80 euros wasted.

Small walking tour of Berlin

We had a wonderful informative day with our guide James. We learnt and saw lots of Berlin that we would have missed if he did'nt point it out to us. James was very easy to get on with, very pleasant . He made our stay in Berln memorable.

We had a wonderful morning with Nadina, she is so passionate in the Berlin history that only taking a tour with her can explain the feeling.
