Full description
Enjoy a fantastic orientation tour of Cairo on an 8-hour excursion that takes in the major monuments of Old Cairo and the maze of streets and stalls of the historic Khan El Khalili Bazaar. Following a hotel pick-up from Cairo or Giza, you will drive up to the Saladin Citadel, constructed by Salah al-Din on the Moqattam Hills in 1183 AD as a defence against Crusader armies. Known for its fresh air and sweeping views of Cairo, it is now a preserved historic site of mosques and museums, including the Mosque of Muhammad Ali Pasha. Designed by the Turkish architect Yousif Boushnaq, who came to Cairo especially from Istanbul to build the great building, the mosque's alabaster structure stands in beautiful contrast to the sandstone city. Continue to the Khan el-Khalili Bazaar, one of the oldest bazaars in the Middle East. Discover a maze of alleys that has been at the center of Cairo’s trading activities since the 14th century. Then, visit Old Cairo to see major attractions such as the Hanging Church, the Ben Ezra Synagogue, the Church of St. Barbara, and the Church of Abu Serga, one of the oldest Coptic churches in Cairo.

The tour was really very interesting. The guide explained to us in great detail all the attractions we visited. She was very empathetic and kind. The driver, Mahmud, was exceptional and sharp. We lived and breathed a typical atmosphere of the daily life of the locals and we really appreciated their customs and traditions. Everything has been planned down to the smallest detail and without leaving anything out. Without this tour one cannot fully taste the real daily life and what is the real hub of the city Cairo. We were very satisfied!!!

A well organized visit with a top driver and an excellent guide speaking very good French. We had plenty of time to sightsee at our own pace and take photos, then shop for souvenirs in the souk. On the other hand, we did not see the synagogue (under restoration?), nor the planned 3rd church (we noticed this on our return when re-reading the announcement of the tour). On the other hand, we had to go to a "factory" of papyrus and perfume when we already had these visits planned in our tour this week, and yet expressed our lack of enthusiasm for this activity not originally planned. . The meal was rather average, it felt a bit rushed (plate almost removed before finishing) and noisy when a monster group of tourists arrived (a bus?).

Punctual in the hotel we visited the old city, 2 of the most important mosques and some churches, we went shopping in the bazaar and enjoyed a good lunch !!! All fantastic ...
