Cape Town: Full Day Road Bike Tour

1. Cape Town: Full Day Road Bike Tour

Your guide will collect you from your hotel in the morning before you are transported to Camps Bay, the start of this route. After the bike setup and route briefing, begin the cycle. Start with a gradual ascent to Suikerbossie with great views of False Bay the whole way. At the top of Suikerbossie, you will head down into Hout Bay. This is the suburb where Chapman's Peak drive starts. This must-do road takes a gradual ascent to the top and this is where you will have a brief stop to admire the views. Then, take a fast and exciting descent into Noordhoek which will reveal great views of Long Beach close to the end. In Noordhoek, head over Black Hill and into Simonstown. Here, visit the penguin colony of Boulders Beach. Then take a gradual ascent upwards.  When you reach the top, you will pass the entrance of Cape Point and take a short cycle to Cape Point Ostrich Farm where you will even have the opportunity to feed the ostriches. From here, you will have an easy cycle through some breathtaking landscape to the sleepy town of Scarborough where some welcome coffee and a pastry awaits you at The Hub. Then, jump back on the bikes to cycle through Misty Cliffs, up Slangkop pass and in into the surfing community of Kommetjie. From Kommetjie, cycle back to Noordhoek and up Ou Kaapse Weg. This is a bit more of a steady ascent but the views over Cape Town and its suburbs are worth the effort. A steep descent takes you into Steenberg and through the suburbs of Constantia. Go up Southern Cross Drive to the top of Constantia Neck and back into Hout Bay. The last climb for the day is up Suikerbossie and an easy pedal to Camps Bay takes you to the end of this tour. Enjoy a well deserved lunch here before your guide takes you back to your hotel.

This is a perfect place for some wine tasting. The wine estate is known for its beautiful avenue of stone pines, and the beautiful surrounding mountain range. Neethlingshof boasts the finest wines including Merlot, Shiraz, Malbec, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinotage, and Sauvignon Blanc to name a few. Epically Beautiful Cape Cycle Ride

I had a spare day in my schedule and wanted to take a bike tour, a quick search found me Gideon’s rides. The one I chose was the Peninsula Explorer. 100km of quiet roads that snake you UP and OVER the hills here. Its not for the climbing adverse, however its steady. It’s not a race the descents are amazing. The views across the bay were stunning and it felt that any minute a fluke or fin would break the surface. This review doesn’t do Gideon or the route justice. It was epic, beautifully hard with a guide who was good company. When I return I am riding with Gideon again.

Doing this bike tour was one of the highlights of my staying in Cape Town. Amazing scenery, nice climbs and also you can visit some touristic spot like the penguings at boulder beach. The tour guide (Gideon) was amazing! Before the tour he helped me out in renting the bike and he was really flexible in building a route based on my preferences. During the ride he showed me amazing places, telling me also a bit of the history of some spots. Strongly recommend and since he offers also MTB tours, next time in Cape Town I’ll definitely do an offroad tour!

I was in Cape Town on business and had a day off so booked the Full Day Road Bike Tour. Overall, the tour exceeded my expectations. Gideon was extremely attentive and tailored the experience to my needs and wants, taking into account my desired riding distance and the sights I wished to see. He was very responsive to my questions before the tour and arrived on time at our meeting location the morning of the tour. I highly recommend using Gideon if you want to take a scenic bike tour of the beautiful area around Cape Town.

Absolutely perfect ! Chris was a very available guide, discreet, helpful and very interesting in his comments on the history and traditions of the country. He is also a very careful driver. The vehicle was very luxurious and very clean. Finally, the choice of route and activities was excellent, each step being timed without ever getting in our way. Thanks again Chris.
