Full description
Join this private guided hike up iconic Table Mountain. Rising to just over one thousand meters directly from sea level, Table Mountain ranks in status alongside famous African giants such as Kilimanjaro and the Atlas Mountains. This tour is perfect for the energetic and inquisitive traveler. Learn secrets of the mountain, including how the watcher of the south, Umlindi Wemingizimu, became Table Mountain. Let your experienced guide interpret the natural wonders of the Cape Floral Kingdom. A few tour routes are listed below. An optimum route will be chosen from this selection based on the fitness of the members of the party and the Cape’s unpredictable weather at the time. Western Table to Maclears Beacon return: A 2-hour easy to moderate hike on the Table Mountain Plateau. Your guide will organize tickets and then proceed with you up Table Mountain in the aerial cableway. The cableway can carry up to 60 people at a time and does a full rotation. This means you can enjoy 360 degree views of Cape Town, Lions Head and the Mountain itself. Once on top, you will get away from the groups and meander along to Maclears Beacon, the highest point on Table Mountain. This pleasant walk across the flat-topped Table plateau overlooking the city passes through some marshy frog breeding areas with interesting vegetation. Twelve Apostles to the Table Mountain Plateau: A 5-hour moderate climb: The climb up Kasteelspoort zigzags its way up a partly shaded gorge beneath the overhanging walls of Spring Buttress. Climbers are rewarded with views of the Twelve Apostles that stand like sentinels overlooking the Atlantic coast. Enjoy a picnic lunch down in the Valley of the Red Gods and the Valley of Isolation. Eventually you arrive on the Table Mountain plateau for a pleasant walk towards the Upper Cableway station. Your guide will organize tickets and you will then proceed down Table Mountain in the aerial cableway, enjoying 360 degree views of Cape Town, Lions Head and the Mountain itself. Skeleton Gorge along the top of Table Mountain Plateau: A 6-hour moderate to strenuous hike: Start hiking in the Kirstenbosch Botanical Gardens, renowned for their spectacular array of indigenous plants. The climb up Skeleton gorge is well-equipped with ladders to aid hikers over the slippery rocks. Keep an eye out for the illusive endangered ghost frog as you ascend through the dense indigenous forests. The forest gradually gives way to the shrub-like Fynbos. This pleasant walk across the flat-topped Table plateau overlooking the city passes through some marshy frog breeding areas with interesting vegetation. Descend down Platteklip gorge or take a ride down the cableway if your legs are weary.

It was a nice climb up Table Mountain. However, we expressly booked a “private individual hike up Table Mountain with a German-speaking guide” via GetYourGuide and were willing to pay a higher price for it. However, the provider sent us an English-speaking guide and did not inform us about it beforehand. This severely limited our enjoyment of this tour and the information one receives during the climb!

This was an amazing hike even though the extreme wind made it a bit harrowing at the top. The descent was a bit tricky for me as I twisted my ankle at the very beginning. My guide Bevan was extremely patient and comforting all while letting me use his arm as a crutch the entire way down. A really great experience with amazing views.

Our guide Henk was fantastic! He was so knowledgeable about the local plants and birds. Our 10 year old son loved talking to him and finding his little secret spots with caves etc. We took the Kasteel route to the top which ended up being about 6km with a 1000 meter elevation gain over 5 hours. It was an amazing hike, but you need to be in good shape and ready to climb some rock stairs! Henk was kind enough to take some really great pictures of our family with his camera and forward them on to us. We now have net year's holiday card! We have hiked all over North America and Europe and this hike was one of our all time favorites. We were definitely happy to take the lovely cable car down at the end of the trip for the fantastic views and our tired legs.
