9. Amman: Private Sightseeing Tour & Cooking Class/Wine Tasting
Experience a panoramic visit to the city of Amman that is enriched with glamour of the past and the present known in the past as Amon. During the 2hour morning or evening tour, visit the ancient and modern Amman by driving in a private vehicle through its streets, downtown area and past animated markets, churches, and mosques like the Grand Husseini Mosque. Start the tour driving through Jabal Al-Hussein for a breathtaking view of old Amman from the Citadel. Gaze in awe at the Roman Amphitheater with its Hashemite Plaza, carved into a hillside in the 2nd century B.C. and the most important remnant of Amman’s predecessor, the Roman white city of Philadelphia. Pass the “Raghadan Palace”, the burial place of the late King Hussein. The tour will continue to the city’s center Parliament Building, King Abdullah Mosque (Blue color), and the Orthodox Church. Continue to stroll by the historical area of Jabal Al–Webdeih, famous for its different arts galleries. Then wander around Rainbow Street in Jabal Amman Quarter, the cradle of many of Amman’s landmarks: like the headquarters of the Jordan River Foundation, and the residence of King Talal. After Rainbow Street, Amman’s colorful arts and shopping hot spot; head over to the modern part of town. Delve into the upscale neighborhoods of “Abdoun” and “Swefieh”, where luxury shopping malls and swanky private villas line the streets.
Cooking Class: Upgrade to a 4-hour tour after your city visit, proceed to Beit Sitti that offers lunch and dinner classes. Beit Sitti in Arabic means, my Grandmother’s House, and is located at the Jabal Al-Weibdeh where you will be introduced to the charming area. Enjoy the atmosphere as you cook authentic Arabic dishes. The cooking takes place on the first-floor terrace with views over the ancient city with sound of traditional play list songs in the background. When the cooking is complete relish, your hand made meal in the dining area. You have the chance to enjoy local wine (at your own expense) with your own cooked food. Finish your meal with a cup of coffee as is tradition in Jordanian houses to be served after you eat.
Wine Tasting: Upgrade to a 4-hour tour after your city visit, proceed for an experience in Jordan’s local wine making. If you enjoy wine, you will love the Jordanian wine.
