Full description
Explore the spectacular Siebengebirge on a fascinating boat tour. Climb aboard in Cologne and cruise past Bonn and the legendary Drachenfels to Königswinter. Admire the stunning views of the countryside and the towns along the way. The Drachenfels is the most famous mountain in the region surrounding Cologne and Bonn. At the top of the summit is a ruined castle which, together with the Drachenfels plateau, is one of the most popular recreation areas in the Rhineland. Stroll along the waterfront or head up the mountain with the Drachenfels Railway to enjoy the breathtaking views over the Rhine Valley and the Rolandsbogen. You can choose between a one-way cruise from Cologne to Königswinter or a roundtrip cruise from Cologne to Königswinter and back. If you opt for the roundtrip cruise, you’ll have sufficient time to explore Königswinter on your own.

Overall it’s a nice little round trip. What I wish was more clear is that this has zero similarities to any “tour”. This is a boat ride with food service, and that’s it. Had I known that I may or may not have still booked it for my family but at least I’d have known. We ate well before boarding, assuming what would be offered would be typically weak. Also what’s not clear is that there will be no information conveyed during the boat ride about where you are, what your stop is or when to return for the boat ride back. All of this MUST be sought after by you without prompting. Nothing is provided, exactly like a train, bus or taxi. Knowing this in advance would have made all the difference. We then skipped eating at the end stop and ate on the boat ride back, and the food was very good. So the lack of stars is purely about not being properly informed.

It's a very nice tour. It takes a long time, but time goes by faster than expected. Unfortunately, you don't have a lot of time in Königswinter, a 3-hour stay is a short one. If you want to take the cog railway, it should be booked in advance! Otherwise a very successful day!

A little long and not enough audio details

Four hours ended up feeling a little long since I was traveling alone. I'm sure it was perfect for people traveling with a friend. I took the boat up and did the castle ruins in Kogniswinter and then took the train back. It ended up being the perfect little day trip. It got colder than expected and the server on the top level was quick to hand out blankets. I guess I must have looked cold because he didn't even ask, just brought one over! Also if you want to order a coffee or drink of some sort it was a little pricey.
