The check-in process for the crossing was very smooth if a bit long-winded but the voyage there and back was easy. The original guide dropped out at short notice but the company was able to organise an excellent replacement. One thing to note is that you don’t really need any Uruguayan pesos, and indeed many restaurants will give you a discount if you pay with a foreign (Visa) credit card. This is because foreigners do not have to pay a sales tax of 14.4%.
We bought ferry tickets across to Colonia for a day trip. I bought the tickets online through Get your Guide. The tickets were cheaper with Get your guide than at the port. We didn’t need to print anything out, just turn up at the port with our reservation number (sent by colonia express) and passports. It was a very efficient process, we didn’t have to queue to check in we could just print out tickets from the auto check in with our reservation number.
It was my first experience with a guide and I was thrilled! Very pleasant and interesting to hear the voice of the tour guide me three walked along the whole old town. The only negative point was the rain that abruptly interrupted the tour! All well organized since the arrival in port with the ColoniaExpress counter that was waiting for us.
I really enjoyed it, punctuality and great service. The guide Mrs. Carmen was very efficient and helpful, gave very important information. Colonia del Sacramento really deserves a visit.
Very nice except for the first visit to the museum of different collections
