Full description

Explore Apokoronas on this tour with select pickup points in the Chania area. Discover charming and authentic villages like Gavalochori, Emprosneros, and Fre. Visit a cheese factory and a bakery to try some local flavors and savor a mouth-watering lunch.

Travel nature and traditional Cretan villages on the way to the village of Gavalochori. Stop at the folklore museum of Apokoronas to uncover 7 rooms of Cretan tradition and knitting artwork and see a demonstration of the Kopaneli knitting technique.

Pass through Kalives village and then Xirosterni to visit a local family raki (alcoholic drink made of twice-distilled grapes) distillery. Have the chance to learn, and if you are lucky, to see the whole raki production process and taste some for yourself.

Leaving Xirosterni, in a few minutes you will be at the village of Emprosneros. Visit a cheese factory and taste graviera, mizithra, and anthotiros cheese varieties. Go to a local bakery to try extra virgin olive oil with warm bread.

Have lunch in a traditional “kafeneio” (Greek café) in Fres village. Speak with locals and learn about life in the countryside. Return to your meeting point at the end of your tour.

Great Wine, Great Cheese and Great Host. Andreas a.k.a. 'The Brave Chickpea' does an amazing job getting us to experience a wonderful half day worth more than any other full day tours we've been on, on our holiday in Crete. Pronounced sense of humour and a Master Sommelier in disguise, you'll uncover great beauty and tastes of the 7 villages with your esteemed guide. 5/5 stars!

Such a pleasant and delightful tour! The food was in abundance and phenomenal. The drive was seamless and the villages were charming and rustic. I had the great fortune to be with a diverse group of passengers and it felt like family. Prepare yourself for all the raki that will be served.

I’ll start with our guide Giannis who is a true gentleman and an expert in all he does; driving smoothly and with caution, tactfully introducing all on board to each other, is fluent in English and very informative. Perhaps the tour description needs to be updated - we did not visit a raki Distillery but were taken to an olive oil factory instead. And we never saw anyone working Kopaneli. Still I highly recommend this tour to anyone visiting Crete. Thanks.
