4. Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt – Explore the Unesco World Heritage

"We must build a city, a whole city." These words by architect Joseph Maria Olbrich have gone down in history. The Darmstadt ensemble is architecturally and artistically groundbreaking and marks a turning point in architecture and art on the threshold of the 20th century. The tour of the Unesco World Heritage "Mathildenhöhe Darmstadt" tells the story of the entire ensemble with studio building, exhibition building, artists' houses and park. Use the World Heritage Shuttle Line M for your visit! Daily between 10.45 a.m. and 5.15 p.m. Departure every 30 minutes from the darmstadtium/congress center stop. On the way to Mathildenhöhe, it stops at the Pützerstrasse stop and at Ostbahnhof. It goes back every 30 minutes between 11.02 a.m. and 5.32 p.m. from the Olbrichweg stop (Museum Artists' Colony) with stops at the Ostbahnhof and at the Jugendstibad. Line M can be used with regular Rmv tickets. A single ticket costs 2.50 euros, reduced 1.55 euros. All common Rmv tickets can be bought on the buses. Our tip: The Darmstadt Card. It includes the use of all public transport in the city (tariff zone 40) and, among other things, discounts in the Artists’ Colony Museum and in the Wedding Tower.
