Full description

Enjoy a full-day trip to Litchfield National Park from Darwin. See lush monsoon forests, termite mounds, unusual rock formations, waterfalls, and cascades. Experience a park that includes the spectacular Tabletop Range, a sandstone plateau surrounded by cliffs. During the green season, 4 major waterfalls thunder down to tropical rock pools below. They flow more gently in the dry season, making them perfect spots for a refreshing swim. Follow the Stuart Highway to reach Litchfield National Park. Visit park waterfalls like Florence Falls, where you’ll enjoy a scenic and interpretive bush and monsoon vine forest walk. Go for a swim by making your way down the stairs to the plunge pool below. Continue on to Tolmer Falls and see water cascading down into a deep waterhole at the base of the falls. Visit Wangi Falls, which features a large, crystal-clear pool that’s a perfect spot for a cool dip. Finally, enjoy a picnic lunch surrounded by the park’s natural wonders.

Bad start. PA system waz buzzing like a dentists drill as we departed. ‘Had to go back to the AAT Kings tours base to get it repaired. (Eventually, it was fixed and we continued on, but late). The driver/tour guide (with her northern English accent) was very difficult to understand. Any words unique to the conversation (Eg, tour related place names) were totally incomprehensible. So, often, we didn’t know what she was talking about. Also, she kept having conversations with the front rows of passengers with the mic turned on. Once again, we only heard parts of these conversations and we didn’t hear what the passengers were asking. But, no complaints about the actual driving. That was fine.

Swimming at Florence Falls was an absolute highlight and would have liked to spend longer there instead of the long stop at lunch where the swimming hole was closed. A long day, but well worth it. The buffet lunch provided was a little on the cheap side and had to be supplemented at the canteen, which had a very long wait. Booking via Get Your Guide meant confusion about pick up points as it doesn't list all the available hotel pick ups and getting through to AATT on the phone required spending 45 minutes on hold. It's a difficult time with illness and volume of travellers but expected better for the money paid. The guide spoke at length about irrelevant personal history, and also seemed to be a fan of Hitler with a mild disclaimer about his 'hatred of certain people". Highly inappropriate, offensive and historically revisionist.

I knew it would be harder for me in a moon boot & crutches but I participated in everything and the coach driver reckoned I could do the walk & 135 steps/stairs to the Florence Falls & I did. It was SO worth it tho deliciously cooling water falling from the waterfalls stunning scenery. I was not the only tired one come days end.
