From Amsterdam: Giethoorn & Enclosing Dike Full-Day Tour

1. From Amsterdam: Giethoorn & Enclosing Dike Full-Day Tour

Climb aboard an air-conditioned coach and travel through a typical Dutch landscape for 1.5 hours en route to the picturesque town of Giethoorn. Experience how the Dutch people live with, and on, the water upon arrival, and set off to explore on foot and by boat. Enjoy the peace and quiet of a town where cars are forbidden and little has changed over the centuries. Admire the many types of boats in the town, from gondolas to punters and flat-bottom vessels used as transportation on the canals. Cruise past the skillfully restored farmhouses on a 1-hour boat trip, and get some free time for lunch and to explore on your own. Get tips from your guide on what to see and where to eat. The tour will continue to the Enclosing Dike (Afsluitdijk), the 32 kilometer dike connecting the provinces of North Holland and Friesland. The Netherlands is famed the world over for the way it deals with water management. The Afsluitdijk, built to tame what was formerly the Zuiderzee (now the Ijsselmeer lake) is a prime example of Dutch water prowess.

2. From Amsterdam: 4 Provinces Highlights Van Tour

Discover famous Dutch landmarks and lesser-known but equally impressive locations on a van tour from Amsterdam. From iconic windmills to long stretches of water dykes and more, there's something for everyone on this tour. Learn about the fascinating history of all these locations from your licensed guide. First, head out to the Zaanse Schans, where iconic windmills are perfectly lined up along the smooth river. With your early head start, enjoy this unforgettable view in the most pristine way before other tourists arrive. Next, see the 32-kilometer-long Afsluitdijk (enclosing dyke). This water barrier is the most impressive example of Dutch water management, connecting the provinces of Noord Holland and Friesland. Marvel at the view of the Wadden Sea to one side of the dyke and the Ijsselmeer Lake on the other. Then, make your way to Sloten, the smallest of the 11 legendary Frisian cities. Walk along the canal with its charming houses and gables. Continue to the quaint fishing village of Urk. Take a stroll to the characteristic white lighthouse and the small church by the sea, which is the oldest building of the village. Finally, see the fortified Hansa town of Elburg. Take a step back to the middle ages as you marvel at its narrow alleyways and overgrown town walls.

The tour was good with plenty of free time to stroll at your own pace, the boat is lovely with roof but open on both side to catch beauty of Giethoorn. Our guide speaks at least 4 languages and told us about the history of Amsterdam and the surrounding area. All in all our group of 4 have a lovely time on this trip! The only problem was that, we booked online and the actual location of the pick up point is in the Central Station which is rather huge and there’s no map or shop name to show us where it was, we spent 20 mins looking and asking people but no one seemed to know where it was.. we ended up waiting at the I Amsterdam Travel shop waiting for it to open at 10am, which again wasn’t the actual Tour Shop. Luckily we were 30 mins early running around like headless chicken to have finally found the travel shop at the end.. I bet if we weren’t early we might have missed the trip

the trip was well organised and factored in to the tourist needs. the time given for free and easy was sufficient for tourist to explore the town. Also the canal ride was very scenic. It was great that tourist have the option of taking the canal tour at a later timing after arriving at Gierthoorn

I am happy to take this tour. Giethoorn is beautiful. I wish I could live there. The restaurant has good food and our tour leader, IAN, is the best. He made our day trip enjoyable and memorable!
