Full description
Learn the story of Prohibition in the United States, and hear about the nationwide ban on the sale, production, importation, and transportation of alcoholic beverages between 1920 and 1933. Led by rural Protestants and social Progressives in the Democratic and Republican parties, the dry movement was coordinated by the Anti-Saloon League and mandated under the 18th Amendment to the US Constitution. Many Americans resisted the move, and in cities such as New York, secret bars continued to operate, hidden from public view. Your guide will take you to some of the best-preserved of the 1920s hotspots, taking you back in time to the era of the Roaring '20s. Learn about the Volstead Act that defined the types of alcoholic beverages prohibited, and the local laws that were sometimes even more strict. Hear about the ratification of the 21st Amendment that repealed the 18th Amendment, and brought an end to Prohibition in December 1933.

Great tour!

First of all, a negative factor: the dress code says, chic clothes, no bulging jeans. I was absolutely overdressed with my simple black dress, the guide himself wore jeans with holes. Otherwise I was thrilled by the tour! Many interesting facts about prohibition. Drinks were mixed, there was beer, absinthe and an ale. The bars were from eyesore to pub to gatsby-style and as a highlight a typical backyard pub, to which you walked through a typical corridor. I also got to know interesting people. Was really great, would book it again at any time if I hadn't already done it :)

Top! Really recommendable!

Sanel was really great! The tour was very informative and entertaining! The bars were very interesting and had a lot to see and do! Would book the tour again smoothly! You have to have experienced it yourself because you won't find some of these bars alone! Really cool bars, really cool tour! PS Got totally bogged down in the last bar, was a great experience!
