For this reason, knowing the historical legacy that survives in the buildings that have lasted until today is a unique opportunity. Your guided tour begins at the Square of San Miguel Bajo. It includes a series of monuments, that thanks to the Dobla de Oro project (in which both the Board of the Alhambra and Generalife and the City of Granada) have their maintenance and dissemination ensured. I’ll show you the striking building where charcoal was stored in the 1600s, the Corral del Carbón, and Plaza Isabel La Católica where you’ll see the statue of Isabella I of Castile meeting Christopher Columbus. From there, I’ll guide you through the maze of narrow streets in the Albaicín – the former Moorish quarter, and now a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You’ll make your way to some of the city’s Renaissance-era highlights, including Granada’s Monasterio de San Jerónimo (St. Jerome Monastery), Catedral de Granada (the cathedral) and Capilla Real (the Royal Chapel) where Isabella I of Castile and Ferdinand II of Aragon are buried. The Albaicin quarter was inhabited by the peasants of the last Moorish kingdom in western Europe. Learn about their strict daily routine of trade, hygiene, praying, and education, and the high level of development all of these aspects achieved during your tour. After meeting with your tour guide, your tour will begin by exploring Plaza de San Nicolas. This most popular look-out point of the city offers splendid views over the biggest tourist attraction of the city, the Alhambra. After spending 10 minutes taking in this captivating view, your tour will move on. The second site visited on your tour will be Dar al-Horra. This 14th-century Moorish palace is a hidden gem of your tour, and you will be given 25 minutes to explore its features.
