El Calafate: Full-Day Chalten Tour with Hiking

1. El Calafate: Full-Day Chalten Tour with Hiking

Your day begins at 7:30AM in the morning from El Calafate, from where you will take the mythical Route 40 which borders the Argentino Lake. Following that, cross the Santa Cruz River, before continuing to the La Leona River where you will walk through its canyon until you reach the old hotel of Paso La Leona. There you can enjoy a coffee accompanied by homemade cakes, and from there you will continue skirting the Viedma Lake with the Andes in the background. Before reaching the village you will stop at the viewpoint of the Viedma Glacier from where you will be able to appreciate beautiful panoramic views of the glacier, the Cordillera, and the emblematic Cerro Fitz Roy and Cerro Torre. You will later arrive at the mountain village of El Chaltén after 3 hours of travel, having traveled a total distance of 220 kilometers. After visiting the interpretation center, there is a walk to Chorrillo del Salto, an impressive waterfall due to its height and surrounding landscape. Towards noon there is lunch in the restaurant, after which optional hikes are offered to the Mirador de los Cóndores and an eagle lookout, both accompanied by your guide. At 4:30PM, you will begin your return to El Calafate.

El Chalten: Las Vueltas River Kayak Tour

2. El Chalten: Las Vueltas River Kayak Tour

Explore River Las Vueltas as you paddle its numerous curves through lenga forests and vertical walls. Admire the stunning natural scenery with interesting rock formations and views of the Fitz Roy from your kayak.   Meet your group at the meeting point, and head to River Las Vueltas. This river is born in the del Desierto Lake and it descends towards Lake Viedma transporting water from the melting of glaciers in the region.  This natural viewpoint is located on the edges of a ravine of height, with walls of interesting rock formations that were pierced by the passage of the river for thousands of years. From there you have excellent views towards the village of El Chaltén and the whole massif of the Torre and Fitz Roy hills.  From the river, get a privileged position in the kayak and for more than 20 kilometers enjoy amazing views of the Fitz Roy and its satellite needles, with an entirely different perspective from what can be seen from a path.

What people are saying about El Chalten

Very pleasant ride, but very busy. It is only worthwhile if you have more than 3 days in El Calafate. The (1) Balcón de El Calafate: 3-hour 4x4 vehicle tour, (2) Mini Trekking on the Perito Moreno Glacier and (3) Rios de Gelo seemed to me the tours I consider unmissable. You can't miss the Laguna Nimez (which is spectacular). Another option is to spend more than a day in El Chaltén because the region is beautiful (I will do that on the next trip).

The guide Pia was v good- friendly and Well paced Lunch was only one course and a bit disappointing

Great excursion, fantastic places, guide explained about the whole region.

Very simple reservation good support competent and very pleasant staff

Encountered bad weather, the guide though was good.
