Full description
Discover the history of Sicily from the Greeks to the Middle Ages with this day trip to Erice, the salt pans of Trapani, and Segesta. After pickup from selected locations in Palermo, drive to western Sicily to reach Erice. The ancient Elymian people founded this medieval town, once an important religious site associated with the goddess Venus. Continue to Trapani where the ancient tradition of harvesting salt from the sea is still practiced. In the afternoon, head to Segesta, another city founded by the Elymians. Visit the 5th-century Doric temple built on a hilltop just outside the ancient city. Admire the astonishing views, before returning to Palermo.

Easy to book and pay for. I excellent communication which was reassuring. Marco our guide knowledgeable and friendly. My concern was that there were no seat belts on the coach and the driver, like many we passed was on his mobile phone, texting. The single use plastic litter everywhere was distressing. Such a shame for an island with such a history and pride in its produce should be so filthy, uncared for, delapidated and unprepared for climate change, dealing with mass migration or unsustainability.

Very positive experience both for the professionalism of the companions, and for the time dedicated to the visit and description of the archaeological finds in Segesta. To visit the beautiful and welcoming Erice located in an enchanting and suggestive position with a remarkable glimpse of Trapani with its salt pans.

Beautiful city beautiful view. For the temple and theater at segesta you pay 3 euros if you are younger than 25 and 6 euros otherwise. It is fine to walk to the top in 20 minutes, but if you have less mobility, there is also a bus that runs back and forth for 1.50 extra. I found the salt flats less interesting as the red water is beautiful.
