Full description
Discover the history of Sicily from the Greeks to the Middle Ages with this day trip to Erice, the salt pans of Trapani, and Segesta. After pickup from selected locations in Palermo, drive to western Sicily to reach Erice. The ancient Elymian people founded this medieval town, once an important religious site associated with the goddess Venus. Continue to Trapani where the ancient tradition of harvesting salt from the sea is still practiced. In the afternoon, head to Segesta, another city founded by the Elymians. Visit the 5th-century Doric temple built on a hilltop just outside the ancient city. Admire the astonishing views, before returning to Palermo.

Federico and Jacopo were excellent hosts. The tour was very informative and delivered in a way that was easy to follow. Federico had to deliver the tour in three different languages and did an amazing job balancing all of us. The tour was approx 16 people, making it tolerable, easy to follow the guide and keep up without struggling to hear information. Well timed at all the stops and engaging in between.

An excellent well organized tour really enjoyed the whole day and a recommended restaurant to eat a brilliant lunch was a bonus! The time spent at each area was sufficient. Both the guide Nickola and the driver Jacko were excellent (Hope I have spelt their names correctly!) Thank you

Excellent day trip, with Nicola as our superb guide and Jacamo (I think) as our reliable driver. We had a comfortable, air conditioned minibus and the ride was smooth throughout, even up the twisting mountain roads to Erice. Nicola spoke fluent (near-native) English as well as Spanish and he clearly has a passion for his native Sicily. We loved Erice and the recommended restaurant for lunch (at our own expense), although it’s worth noting that we later saw the same dishes were cheaper elsewhere in the town. As others have mentioned, the salt pans at Trapani is a very brief stop, but you can buy some salt from the mobile shop if you wish while you’re there. Note that the the Segesta visit only goes to the temple, not the amphitheatre as well. There were 9 people on our tour, a mix of English and Spanish speakers. Overall, well worth doing and good value for money. Grazie mille, Nicola and Jacamo!
