Sintra - Cascais Estoril - Full Day Tour

9. Sintra - Cascais Estoril - Full Day Tour

The enchanting town of Sintra makes the westernmost point of continental Europe much more than a place of geographical interest. This full-day private tour will give you a perspective you can only get by standing on the edge of the world. Though it is only 30 kilometers from Lisbon, this place "where the land ends" has a fresh climate and luxuriant vegetation that combine with unique architecture and a legendary charm to make it deeply romantic and mysterious. The ancient Moorish Castle of Pena Palace, built atop a cliff and the National Palace in the town center contributed to Sintra being named a World Heritage Site in 1995. But long before that it inspired famous writers including Hans Christian Anderson and Lord Byron, who called it "the most beautiful [village] in the world." First, stop at Sintra village, a delightful Portuguese town that is situated within the hills of the Serra de Sintra. Concealed within these pine covered hills are extravagant palaces and opulent mansions. Pena Palace, once the summer residence of Portugal's royal family, is the next stop. It dominates the coast to Lisbon. After lunch, visit Cabo da Roca, the actual western tip of the continent, where turbulent waters crash loudly against rocks rising to 140 meters in height and offering a beautiful view of the wild coastline. Boca do Inferno (mouth of hell), a steep cleft where the waves hit harder and louder, is nearby. A visit to Cascais, a fishing village established in the 12th century and well preserved until today, is the last stop before returning to Lisbon.

If you are a couple, a solo traveler, or a small group of three, looking for a truly personal and private tour of the outskirts of Lisbon—Sintra, medieval and seaside towns, palaces, castles, and sunsets—taking a tour with Iain is the way to go. Iain will drive you around in his convertible that is clean and spacious enough. He is a very responsible driver. Iain can come up with a one-of-a-kind tour that caters to the specific places you want to visit and see. He is kind and respectful of your time and interests. He communicated with me even before I arrived in Lisbon and suggested various options we could do for the tour, making sure there were no glitches or surprises on the day of the tour. However, he was still flexible enough to make tweaks and changes if need be on the day of the tour. Especially for couples and those who want to make their Portugal trip a more memorable even romantic experience, I recommend a tour with Iain at the helm. It’s the best way to go.

I had a truly amazing day with this group and the guides. Everything went smooth and the guide gave a lot of interesting information about the places we went to. He did a fantastic guided tour with detailed information at the besutiful palace in Sintra. I enjoyed seeing all that original furniture and items that were used by the king and queen… I imagined how they lived in the palace while walking through and listening to the guide‘s infos. What‘s more, I met fantastic people - other single travellers - and had a great time with them. This just was really great - everything! There is just one tiny thing I wished was better: 20 minutes if time at the capo da roca isn‘t enough. If you really want to enjoy the actual atmosphere of that place. Nevertheless, I would do this tour again… Thanks for the great day! :)

A wonderful day of history & scenery with Alex our super guide. All of it was fascinating beginning with the amazing palace at Sintra & its surroundings, on to the ‘end of the world’ & finishing with the beautiful seaside town of Cascais. Alex shared his extensive knowledge & enthusiasm for his country throughout the day as well as his good humour. Definitely a trip not to be missed.

I think our tour guides name was Givonni. He was awesome and made the tour very enjoyable. He gave us some great information about everything we were looking and made sure we were early at the palace to surpass any major lines. He was also very funny which I always appreciate. HIGHLY recommend!

Wonderful trip, the guide Marcus was very knowledgeable, I would recommend
