Full description
Bio Bay Kayak Tour in Fajardo begins at Las Croabas Park. First, learn from the professional guides the basics of kayaking, safety and the rules of the nature reserve. Then board the kayaks that fit two people. The water is shallow, and at this time on a regular day, the sunset looks great. The entrance of the Fajardo Bio Bay is a red mangrove channel. The mangrove forest is inside Las Cabezas de San Juan Nature Reserve. Along the way, you'll see its beautiful protected flora and fauna. The guides will lead the way and explain the ecology of the place. The mangrove channel opens into Laguna Grande and into the sunset, where the night will fall and stars will follow in the sky and water. At every stroke of your paddle, sparkles will appear in the water, while the kayaks will create a swirl of light. The place will  simply turn magical! The intensity of the glow will depend on the phase of the moon and other nature factors, such as storms and the temperature of the water. The Fajardo Bio Bay is perfect for watching the stars too. Enjoy the constellations while sitting in the kayak at Laguna Grande. It’s like being inside a vault of lights. Cruise back through the mangrove channel led by the guides. At this time, night has set. The kayak’s navigation lights will show the way along as you hear the wonderful nighttime sounds of nature.

What a great time! We were sent great information before the trip, the guides were very friendly and helpful, and they took great pix! It was good having four guides for 16 kayaks - while not a lot of instruction was given, they were there for help and advice when needed. They gave great information about the area and the bioflagellates. And because we had a "super moon" that night (so not great visibility for the bioluminescence), they had a huge tarp they spread over 4 kayaks at a time so we could splash and see the blue sparks! And having the super moon for a moonlight trip was excellent. Great experience!
