Your Middle Atlas day trip will begin from Fez, from where you will head towards Ifrane. You will discover that the landscape varies with altitude, and after crossing the agricultural plain of Saiss with its olive trees, you will arrive to a fruit-growing region. The region grows apples, pears, apricots, and peaches, and is located around Imouzzer Kandar at an altitude of 1,000-1,300 meters above sea level. You'll then ascend further to some majestic cedar forests, which sit at 1,500 meters. Moving up higher to 2,000 meters above sea level, the landscape plateaus to give way to a vast steppe landscape. Each season has its charms and colors, with spring between March and May according to the altitude being especially beautiful.

Take an overnight excursion into the Merzouga Desert from Fez, passing through mountains, Berber villages, forests, and more, before arriving at the dunes by camel.   Day 1   Depart Fes and pass through the winter ski resort of Ifrane, built by the French in the 1930s to resemble a Swiss village. Continue through the cedar forest of Azrou and look out for the resident monkeys before a drive across the Middle Atlas Mountains. Wind your way through the beautiful forests, mountain springs, jagged rocks, and Berber villages before your descent to the Sahara Desert. Stop for lunch half way in the town of Midelt, famous for its rocks and fossils. Then, continue towards Merzouga, taking in the panoramic views of a huge oasis of palm trees at Ziz along the way.   Upon arrival at Rissani, travel by 4WD vehicle into the desert, reaching Merzouga in the afternoon. Here, your guide will be waiting with the camels that will take you across the dunes to Erg Chebbi. Watch the sun set from the back on your camel on this 2-hour trek to a Berber camp. When you arrive at the desert shelter, your camels will be tethered as you are served a welcome mint tea. Enjoy dinner and relax as you look at the stars in the sky.   Day 2   Wake early and walk across the dunes to watch the sunrise from just behind the Algerian border, approximately 50 kilometers from Merzouga. Ride your camel back across the desert sands, take a shower, and enjoy breakfast before the trip back to Rissani. Return to Fes, taking lots of comfort stops along the 7-hour journey.

Day 1 After getting picked up from your hotel in Fes, head southeast to Merzouga, passing through several cities in the Middle Atlas mountain range along the way. Stop at Ifran, also known as "the Switzerland of Morocco", to admire its alpine-like architecture and picturesque forests before heading to Azrou and the famous cedar forest where you can spot some Barbary apes if you're lucky. Beautiful hike. Travel by car to Merzouga very comfortable with a nice and attentive driver, who also speaks good English. Arrival at the tent by dromedary and return by car (requested by us). Very clean and well maintained tents. Congratulations to all the reception staff in the desert, who speak English, French and a little Italian.

Trip at the top!!!! Lovely driver... Change of scenery guaranteed!!!! The evening under the Berber tents was great with all the comforts including toilets and showers inside the tent. The meals were excellent and the hotel in Merzougga splendid. In short, go there with your eyes closed!!!!!!!! Thank you for everything.
