Full description
Get lost in the woods. On this itinerary, discover the gardens designed for Cosimo I de Medici in 1562 which became a model for the European royal gardens. Boboli, with its green architectures, statues, fountains, terraces and grottoes, is the first park in Europe where works of art hide meanings and allegories. On your 1.5-hour  guided walking tour, you will hear about the stories and myths of the gods and heroes, imagined and represented by artists from many periods, from ancient Roman to contemporary. Among these are the sculptures of Hercules, of Demeter and the Spartan King Tyndareus, the Fountains of the Artichoke and of Neptune, the Secret Garden and the Tunnel of Love.  In the purest italian style, the gardens consist of several kilometers of rich vegetation and great fountains. You will go to the top of the gardens where it is possible to admire a spectacular panoramic view of the city of Florence.

Fantastic Tour, Outstanding Guide!

We thoroughly enjoyed our tour of The Boboli Gardens. The Gardens were beautiful, but what made the tour unforgettable was our guide, Alessandra. She made the complex history of the Medicis so interesting and three dimensional, as opposed to just rattling off facts and timeline. Her command of English and depth of knowledge was exceptional. My husband likes to ask a lot of questions. Not only was she patient, she was enthusiastic and passionate about each detail. We’ve been to Italy several times and taken many tours. Our tour with Alessandra is one of our all time favorites, loved it.

Our tour guide was Giacommo who is a local and very knowledgeable with a good command of English. The gardens are beautiful but they are built in an old quarry so there are a lot of hills to walk up and you should know this if you have problems walking distances or up steep inclines. But the views over the Chianti region to one side and Firenze to the other are the reward.
