Full description

Get a taste of 'la dolce vita' on this jam-packed tour to the Cinque Terre, a collection of quintessential Italian towns dotted along the coast of Tuscany.

After meeting your guide in central Florence, listen to an insightful introduction about the Cinque Terre on the 2-hour bus journey to La Spezia. After a quick bathroom break, board the first train of the day. Arrive in Manarola, the first of the Cinque Terre villages you will visit. Here you will join a small guided walk through the vines, and then enjoy some free time to explore at your own pace. Next, take the train to Corniglia.

Climb the steps to reach the center of this quaint village and take some time to wander around. If you have selected the add-on, sit down at a local restaurant with a beautiful terrace and sea views. Tuck into a lunch of homemade pesto pasta for your 'primo' and fresh fish for your ‘secondo’. Then, choose to either go on an adventurous guided hike from Corniglia to Vernazza, or if you prefer to take it easy, follow your guide and take a train instead. Once in Vernazza, sit at one of the local cafés, or take a refreshing dip in the sea.

Next, board a train to Monterosso, the village renowned for its beautiful beaches and artisan shops. If the weather allows it, you will then board a boat to navigate along the coast of the Cinque Terre.

Arrive in Riomaggiore, an ancient fishing village and the most southern of the 5 villages. After exploring this last village, board the train back to La Spezia and then take the coach back to Florence.

I took a day trip by myself to see Cinque Terre and this tour did not disappoint. I chose this over planning it myself and I am glad I did because I got to see all the cities and enjoy a great hike and meal. The tour guide took the time to get to know everyone and had great information but also allowed us to go on our own and explore. It was overall one of the best tours I’ve been on. Ado was a great guide!

The guide did not paint a very nice picture of the attitudes of the Cinque Terra people. He warned us they did not want to be working in the off season and they could be rude to us. That was NOT the case. The people were much nicer to us than in Florence! They seemed genuinely happy to have us. We were warned that the shuttle sometimes leaves early in Corniglia so we would have to walk up 300+ stairs to the town. We opted to skip it so we got more time in Vernazza but did not get to see Corniglia. Vernazza was the only village we got enough time in. In Monterosso we had only enough time to walk down to the beach and see Il Gigante. We did not get to go on the boat because the rough seas and i don't know how that would have worked anyway, as we only got 50 min. in Riomaggiore, and JUST caught the sunset. The bus parked much too far away and we wasted too much time walking to and from it, which could have been used in the villages. 2/3 mi walk in La Spezia to bus!

The 2 tour leaders were wonderful. They had endless energy and were very personable. They made the trip fun. I particularly liked the fact that we didn't have to eat with the group as we were able to find a lovely, authentic cafe/wine bar to have a delicious lunch. We traveled by train between the towns because it was November and boats weren't running, and the guides had the timetable down pat.
