Covid-19 Update

Due to health and safety regulations, this itinerary may change. See Know before you go for the latest updates.

You’ll start first thing in the morning, meeting your local expert guide and intimate group of 8 people or fewer outside the Accademia Gallery Museum. Before the daytime crowds show up, you’ll head in to marvel at Michelangelo’s

David

as well as his unfinished sculptures known as

Slaves,

which give incredible insight into the mind of the great artist. From the museum, you’ll skip lines into the cathedral, where you’ll have special access to a room filled with original statues from the cathedral’s facade. Your guide will bring the unbelievable history of the cathedral's construction to life as you explore the building. Your special access extends to the cathedral itself, where you’ll step over the velvet ropes to see details up close. The best is saved for last. After seeing all there is to see inside the cathedral, you’ll visit the cathedral terraces, where you’ll use a special entrance to skip the (always long) line and climb all the way up to the top of the cathedral for the city’s most amazing views.

We were a little disappointed that the Accademia was closed do to a strike that was a normal occurrence on Fridays. We did get an email after the 24 hour time period needed to cancel or reschedule and we didn't see it until after we were at the tour. The optional walking tour was ok but comprised of areas within the same area and other walking tours went outside of the normal walking areas. Had to book another tour for the accademia which was an added expense. The tour of the Bastille and terrace was great.

Easy to book & locate the meeting point! Our guide was very engaging and kept us captivated (previous tours have bored us to death and were too slow to move on). Skipping the lines for things was the best thing, we walked past huge lines the day before and decided it wasn’t worth our time to sit and wait for hours so we booked the tour the afternoon before we went and got a spot easy!

Meeting spot was easy to locate. We breezed past lines at the Accademia and the Duomo. The statue of David was quite a bit more impressive in person, and the view from the Duomo terraces, which are not open to the general public, were beautiful. The view from the top of the dome, however, was unquestionably the winner. Totally worth those steps. Our guide Ishmael was smart and witty, and through his enlightening stories about the history of the art, the people behind them and the city of Florence, we were able to see everything in a totally different light than we would have if we had just gone through ourselves. Totally recommend.
