Everglades National Park: Mangrove Tunnel Kayak Eco-Tour

1. Everglades National Park: Mangrove Tunnel Kayak Eco-Tour

The Everglades area is home to a vast and varied ecosystem containing the largest mangrove forest in North America. The unique Everglades lakes, surrounded by mangroves, are refuges and nursery grounds for herons, egrets, stilts, ducks, wood storks, spoonbills, alligators, otters, and a variety of cute little fish. The Everglades National Park Mangrove Tunnel Kayak Eco-Tour takes you inside the unique mangrove ecosystem in a stable "sit-on-top" kayak (no previous experience required). Weave through the interconnecting, narrow lakes and flowing tidal creeks. Float through tunnels in the mangrove forest, created by the dense mangrove growth up the edges and even over the tops of the interlocking creeks and narrow lakes. The mangrove tunnels make for a surreal and mystical experience with the sunlight shimmering through the canopy, the stillness of the forest vegetation and the sounds of the forest itself. Enjoy learning a wealth of information on the colorful local history of Everglades National Park and its wonderful wildlife and flora.

We had an absolutely wonderful day in the Everglades. As a group of four, we booked the kayak tour a few days in advance. After a short email contact with the provider, we postponed the booked time to 11:00 a.m. because of the morning cold (only +2°C at 8:00 a.m.!). Our guide Chris was already waiting for us at the agreed meeting point at a crossroads. After a short drive we were finally able to put the kayaks into the water at a parking lot. Chris prepared us wonderfully for the upcoming experiences and took away everyone's fear of possible dangers. He explained everything very well and was always in a good mood during the journey and helped everyone. Thanks to him we got to know great plants and stories about them and even got to see a few alligators just a few meters away from us. Chris asked us which of our vacation days was the best: It was that day with the kayaks in the Glades!

Very cool experience. Really very informative and a good alternative to discover the Everglades. Recommended in the winter months when the alligators prefer to be on the shore. Really great guide and highly recommended.

Enough assistance to keep me out of danger, enough encouragement to learn how to kayak. John was as personable and professional as I could have hoped for.

We enjoyed our tour very much. The guide was knowledgeable and did a nice job of answering questions, and informing us about plants and animals we saw.

This was my favorite part of our trip to the Everglades!
