Everglades National Park: Mangrove Tunnel Kayak Eco-Tour

1. Everglades National Park: Mangrove Tunnel Kayak Eco-Tour

The Everglades area is home to a vast and varied ecosystem containing the largest mangrove forest in North America. The unique Everglades lakes, surrounded by mangroves, are refuges and nursery grounds for herons, egrets, stilts, ducks, wood storks, spoonbills, alligators, otters, and a variety of cute little fish. The Everglades National Park Mangrove Tunnel Kayak Eco-Tour takes you inside the unique mangrove ecosystem in a stable "sit-on-top" kayak (no previous experience required). Weave through the interconnecting, narrow lakes and flowing tidal creeks. Float through tunnels in the mangrove forest, created by the dense mangrove growth up the edges and even over the tops of the interlocking creeks and narrow lakes. The mangrove tunnels make for a surreal and mystical experience with the sunlight shimmering through the canopy, the stillness of the forest vegetation and the sounds of the forest itself. Glen was engaging, knowledgeable, friendly and accommodating when he took our group out. The boat seats were comfortable and swiveled so easy to look all around. He found dolphins and got them to "play" with us; took us to a great beach and we collected beautiful shells and even found sand dollars; was informative about the Ten Thousand Islands which Marco Island is a part of and the trees in the Mangroves from Glen who has been in the area for over 30 years. He took us to a spot he knew and we saw a Rosy Spoonbill "fishing" which was so cool!! We highly recommend Capt Glen!

We had a very open-minded guide who was able to answer all questions very well. The tour was very relaxed and alligators, turtles and various species of birds could be seen sufficiently. Water and a small bar were also included as supplies.

Very cool experience. Really very informative and a good alternative to discover the Everglades. Recommended in the winter months when the alligators prefer to be on the shore. Really great guide and highly recommended.
