Amalfi Coast: Boat and Snorkeling Tour with a Captain

2. Amalfi Coast: Boat and Snorkeling Tour with a Captain

Board an Amalfitan Gozzo boat for a scenic ride along the Amalfi coast. Admire natural wonders, including the Natural Arch and Faraglioni Rocks. Swim and snorkel or relax on the shores of secluded beaches. Once everybody has jumped on board and had a little briefing about how you're going to spend the day, you will be ready to set off to the west towards Positano. The route will take you along Amalfi Coast’s finest beaches as well as close to natural rock arches and into sea caves, giving you the opportunity to admire the old watchtowers that dot the entire length of this coast. You will pause at beaches reachable only by sea and have time to go snorkeling or swimming in crystal-clear waters and into grottoes. Not too far from the starting point, right after leaving the center of Amalfi, you will get close to Saint Andrew's Grotto, a huge natural sea cave full of stalactites named after the patron saint of Amalfi (Andrea). Then, once passed Duoglio and Santa Croce beaches, you will stop by the "Arc of Lovers", a natural rock arch created millions of years ago by the erosion of the sea whose shape recalls two elephants in the act of kissing. Up to not too long ago young couples used to get married on the top of it. A little later you will cruise in front of the ancient fishing village of Conca dei Marini, passing near the villa of Sophia Loren and seeing the historic hotel “Il Saraceno” located on La Vite Beach. From here you will also have a stunning view of the Santa Rosa Monastery, a former convent now converted into a luxury hotel, once home of the Dominican nuns. It's right in the kitchens of this monastery that the delicious "Sfogliatella Santa Rosa" was born, a shell-shaped pastry filled with ricotta cheese-based cream and little dried fruit pieces, typical of the local culinary tradition (don't forget to taste it before leaving!). Once past the seaside of Conca dei Marini you will enter its western basin, where you will have a beautiful view of Furore and Praiano villages and the islands of Li Galli and Capri, together with the well-known Faraglioni Rocks. Further inside this basin we will find the little Runghetiello Grotto and its tiny beach, where you will anchor for a break to go swimming or snorkeling. You will reach then the famous Furore Fjord, the only natural fjord in Italy and location of the international diving competition "MarMeeting": every year in July, professional divers from around the world compete by jumping from the top of the bridge which is 28 meters high. Navigating a little farther onward to the village of Praiano you will be able to have a close look at a bigger sea cave, the Africana Grotto, where the water has a distinctive blue color thanks to the unique refraction of light. Finally you will go round Capo Sottile and continue cruising to Positano, where you will have another break for snorkeling at a beach reachable only by the sea and so not crowded at all: La Porta. The return trip to Amalfi will give you a different but equally remarkable view of both sea and land.

Our tour guide was AMAZING! A real local, so knowledgeable about the area and highly entertaining. She did the tour in both English and Italian, going back and forth between the two. We felt the time in Positano was a bit too long (same stuff to see/eat/do as Amalfi) at the end of the day, but otherwise the trip was fabulous. Side note: a list of the better restaurants in Amalfi would have been nice, we chose poorly and ended up eaten the worst food of our whole trip there (still decent, but not nearly as good as other places).

Our guide was very friendly and informative. We chose the tour with pickup from Sorrento. It was so worth it. The shuttle drive alone from Sorrento to Nerano was an adventure and a peek into other towns. The Amalfi coast is stunning. We went for our honeymoon and highly recommend this boat tour. Our stop in Amalfi was lovely.. Positano was nice too!

Amazing your, the best way to see the Amalfi coast and to avoid all the traffic. The guide was fantastic and so knowledgeable.

this experience was one of the highlights of our trip. it was such a great day

Boat views were spectacular! Very touristy in town.
