From Toronto: Killarney and French River Guided Day Hike

2. From Toronto: Killarney and French River Guided Day Hike

On this adventure, you will hike “The Crack”- a famous 4-hour, 7km roundtrip trek ascending huge pink, grey and white granite/quartz rock formations. This hike takes its name from the dramatic, deep crevasse that forms walls on the sides of the trail towards the end of the hike. After getting through the crack, you arrive at an unforgettable panoramic lookout where several clear blue lakes can be seen framed by Georgian Bay jack pines. On the way, we will also visit the French River Conservation Area, which features an interesting and accessible suspension bridge over the river. PLEASE NOTE: This is not a beginner's hike. In order to summit in a timely manner, we suggest this trip for folks who are experienced in hiking/hiking uphill and comfortable going through a few tight spaces. Due to the rocky terrain, sturdy shoes (ideally hiking boots) are necessary- especially if the weather calls for rain. Itinerary 6:45am – Departure from Christie Station. Note: if your tour is on a Sunday, the subway does not start running until 8 am, shuttle busses run down Yonge Street and Bloor Street, increasing your travel time slightly. 11:00am – Arrival and registration at the park 11:15am – Begin the hike! Followed by time to relax with a beautiful view of the Georgian Bay. This is a good place to have your lunch. 4:30pm – Visit the French River 6:00pm – Dinner together at a local restaurant (not included) 8:45pm – Expected arrival time to Toronto, Christie Subway Station

4. From Toronto: The Crack Hiking Day Trip in Killarney Park

Join us on a day tour to Killarney Provincial Park and hike one of the most beautiful trail in Ontario - The Crack. The Crack Killarney is part of the La Cloche Mountains. These mountains are approximately 1.88 billion years old, and they’re comprised mostly of white Quartzite (metamorphic rock that was originally pure quartz sandstone). While the highest peak of the La Cloche Mountains only stands at 539 meters today, they were once higher than the Rocky Mountains. These hills are among the highest altitudes in Ontario. This trip is good for experienced hikers as the terrain is quite challenging. You will need hiking shoes as the rocks are slippery. The last part of the hike is the hardest as you will have to climb a big rocks. It will take us four hours to hike the whole trail. We will also visit a suspension bridge at French River Provincial Park.

The trip was very long (7am to 10pm) but amazing! If you are ok with sitting quite some time in the bus this is definitely worth a shot. Michael and Ramiro took us to Bruce Peninsula and showed us around. We discovered ship wrecks from the kayak, hiked through the national park and jumped in the water at the famous grotto. Everything being documented by Ramiro who provided us afterwards a variety of pictures from all of us. (Little sidenote to the participants: its easier for the group if everyone sticks to the plan and arrives on time since the time slots for the different stops are well planned. Otherwise you lose time on the spot...)
