Experience the battle of Gettysburg on this action-packed self-guided tour of the battlefield. Feel the weight of history as you explore the site and hear the powerful accounts and stories of the soldiers who fought. Start your self-guided audio and GPS tour at the parking area outside Devil’s Den before heading towards the battlefield. Meet the commanders: Union General Daniel Sickles, and Confederate General James Longstreet. Step back in time as you enter Devil’s Den and watch the Union bring out their cannons and sharpshooters. Then, follow the route of the inevitable Confederate advance, aided by cannon fire. Next stop: the monument dedicated to the Orange Blossoms regiment. Hear the desperation of the Union and admire the heroism displayed by the soldiers of the 124th New York Regiment. Afterward, visit the monument to the Pennsylvania and Maine soldiers who gave everything to prevent the Confederates from taking Devil’s Den. Hear accounts describing how the struggle broke into chaos with bitter brawls taking place among the boulders. Immerse yourself in the pandemonium and gunsmoke as you follow in their footsteps.
