Cappadocia: Hot Air Balloon Flight and Göreme Museum Tour

1. Cappadocia: Hot Air Balloon Flight and Göreme Museum Tour

Gilde over Cappadocia on a hot air balloon flight and watch the sunrise over the incredible landscapes and fairy chimneys. Have a traditional lunch and explore the cave churches of Göreme. Be picked up at your hotel before sunrise, and journey to the launch site of your hot air balloon flight. Watch the sunrise over Cappadocia as you glide over settlements depending on the conditions. Float back to the ground for a post-flight celebration and collect your flight certificate. Then, marvel at the rock formations of the Devrent Valley before going to Monks Valley (Pashabagi), where the hermits built their cave dwellings and churches. Try your hand at pottery in Avanos and watch the potters at work using a technique that has remained unchanged for generations. Enjoy lunch at a local restaurant, and explore the cave churches of Göreme Open Air Museum. Marvel at the Byzantine wall paintings depicting biblical scenes, and get a panoramic view of the valley and its fairy chimneys before visiting Uchisar Castle at the region's highest point.

Cappadocia Highlights: Private Full-Day Tour with Lunch

2. Cappadocia Highlights: Private Full-Day Tour with Lunch

Begin the day with a pick-up from your hotel and head over to the incredible Goreme Valley. Resembling a vast monastic complex composed of scores of refectory monasteries placed side-by-side, each with its own fantastic church, Goreme is understandably the star attraction of any visit to the region. Continue the tour to Devrent Valley, also known as Imaginary Valley or Pink Valley, this area does not have cave churches like the other valleys of Cappadocia. Next, make your way to Uchisar for a walk through the beautiful valley, often called Valley of the Pigeon Lofts due to the thousands of pigeon houses carved into the soft tufa since ancient times. Enjoy the magnificent panorama of the surrounding land at Mount Erciyes in the distance from the Uchisar Castle and then continue the tour to Pasabag. Pasabag, meaning general's vineyard, is located on the road to Zelve and filled with remarkable earth pillars and mushroom-shaped fairy chimneys. There are plenty of opportunities for shopping for the duration of the tour. Buy local products at the Carpet Handicraft Center and Cappadocia Stone Shop as well as ceramic, pottery, and other textiles.

Göreme: Full-Day Cappadocia Private Tour

3. Göreme: Full-Day Cappadocia Private Tour

You will be picked up from your hotel at 09:15 and start your tour at 09:30. Uchisar Castel is constructed on the highest point of the region and has a totally dictinct castle form, including graves, tunnels and churches which you cannot come across in any other place in the world. At Göreme Open Air Museum, it is especially important to understand the influence of religion, especially of Christianity on the region. For good reasons, it is the most famous attraction, a complex of several painted cave churches carved out by Orthodox monks between 900 and 1200 AD. Çavusin old village, an old Greek village, will be the next stop on this tour. Çavusin is a village about 4 kilometers from Göreme. The old village is largely deserted because the area has been plagued by rock falls. At Çavusin, you can visit the Church of John the Baptist, which probably dates from the 5th century with paintings from the 6th, 7th and 8th centuries. The view of Rose Valley is excellent from this village. The best place to see three-headed fairy chimneys. Pasabag, the Pasha's Vineyard, is surrounded by incredible natural rock formations; a spectacular scene. Have an hour for lunch at Han Restaurant which is cool and popular in the region. You will start with the soup and then it will be self-service. Since the Hittites in 2000 BC, people could get red clays (terra rosa) around Kızılırmak River, which is the longest river in Turkey, and white clays (caulin) from the volcanic hills. They could use the clays for their daily life by shaping the clay with their hand on the spinning wheels. The ruins at Devrent are spread over three valleys, which also house several pointed fairy chimneys with large stems. The "fairy chimneys" with caps, mainly found in the vicinity of Ürgüp, have a conical-shaped body and a boulder on top of it. The cone is constructed from tufa and volcanic ash, while the cap is of a harder, more resistant rock such as lahar or ignimbrite. The fairy chimneys which are symbols of Ürgüp are called holy spirit chimneys. You'll find the mother, father and son fairy chimneys are together. At a carpet factory, every carpet, with its patterns, resembles a collection of messages, beliefs and symbols. Every pattern that is woven into a carpet is a picture of a feeling, a desire or a wish. Every carpet represents a living history from the early ages to the present in which women have patiently and untiringly written their joys and sorrows in amazing codes and magic letters which are to be read line by line. Your tour will finish at 17:30 and you will be dropped off back to your hotel.

What a wonderful day! Just be aware- it is a long hard day, so if you don’t want to wake up early and be out all day, don’t book this tour. We had an incredible time- honestly one of the best days of our life! Our tour guide Augyl was so kind and accommodating - clearly well respected by the owners of the places we went. We have been in Turkey for over a week and a half and this was hands down the best lunch that we have had- they treated us like royalty! Augyl communicated quickly and answered all our questions prior to leaving on the tour and was very well informed about the history of the area. She even asked us where we wanted to go/see and adjusted our day to meet our desires. This truly was a once in a lifetime experience and I highly recommend!!

The hot air balloon ride was phenomenal! The driver picked us up on time and the ride went smoothly. The tour was phenomenal. The tour guide was very knowledgeable and patient and walked us through all the points. During the tour we experienced the carpet making process and the pottery making process. Lunch was at a great restaurant. Food tasted amazing! The whole tour was wonderful.

Great tour with all the highlights of Cappadocia. The guide knows a lot about the history and the planes and takes wishes into account if you choose to see something else or skip something. You have a private driver who always waits outside the visited places. Very recommendable tour.

Very professional people. The tour guide gave an outstanding service. The first baloon flight was canceled due weather conditions, and they were able to accommodate us another day. Highly recommended.

Balloon ride was awesome, and the full day tour was also interesting
