Full description

Meet your guide by the dramatic Gullfoss waterfall for the start of a snowmobile tour of Langjökull Glacier, available for individuals and groups alike. Transfer to the base camp on the east side of the glacier to equip yourself with a snowmobile and see the landscape from a different perspective. The adventure is an ideal choice for those with their own transportation, but want to top off a Golden Circle adventure with something special. Professional guides will take you into the Icelandic highlands to give you the most amazing views of the majestic glacier and its surroundings. Grab some lunch at the Gullfoss Café before you transfer to the base camp by monster truck. Travel through scenery that is relatively new compared to much of the rest of the world’s terrain. Look at a sparsely settled countryside with only a few signs of commercial activity. Upon arrival at the base camp, receive the appropriate equipment such as helmets, overalls, overshoes, gloves and a hat. Get detailed instructions from the friendly, fun-loving guides, and learn how to operate the snowmobile before you ride off into the winter wonderland.

This is a "just show up and have a great time" activity. You can book the tour directly from the provider, or, I noticed, it can be included in other tours. We easily booked directly. Come dressed normally for the weather -- at the base camp you will be fitted with warm overalls, gloves, and shoe coverings appropriate for snowmobiling on the glacier. The mountain bus trip to the base camp is part of the fun. The actual ride follows the leader in a line, but it is still fun to have control of your own snowmobile and to experience the thrill of blasting across a glacier at the top of the world.

It is a very cool experience. The approach to the glacier in monster-type buses is followed by a preparation with monkeys, gloves, helmet ... Once prepared they lower you to the glacier and have a good fleet of motorcycles. The nice guides and although they leave you little freedom if you are lucky to go in a small group you enjoy it a lot and the duration is appropriate. Driving is simple, especially if you go alone.

We would be picked up at the Gullfoss car park at 12 noon. The trip to the base camp went quickly. Once there, we would be equipped with snowsuits, helmets, and gloves. Then it went to the glacier. In total we were 7 people in our group. First it went uphill until we could enjoy a very nice view with lots of interesting information. Downhill we stopped at a crevasse. We were on the road for an hour. When we reached the bottom of the glacier, we were brought back to the base camp. In total we were on the road for 3.5 hours. It was an impressive experience !!! You should definitely wear sturdy, high shoes.
