Depart from just below the iconic Lighthouse in Harbour Town. As the boat makes its way towards Crabbing waters, learn what it takes to bring these tasty treats from the sea to the table. Hear about the inner workings of a commercial crabbing vessel, and about the daily life of local "crabbers". Arriving at the crabbing waters, you will learn how to properly bait a crab pot, and see how the crabs get caught inside. After a few baited pots are put in position, the crew will start bringing in pots that have already been pre-baited the day before. The crew will then pull the pots up with a winch to lay the catch out on the sorting table. At this point, the crew will be going over the different types of crabs or by-catch pulled up that day. They will teach you about what's legal to keep, along with the different species of crabs that can be found in the area. Any guests aboard that would like to keep the day's catch are welcome to, as it will be divided up evenly between the parties aboard. Join the friendly crew aboard the Shrimp Trawler Tammy Jane and see what daily life is like for local shrimpers. Start off with an introduction to the boat and the shrimping gear aboard. Then the boat will make its way to the shrimping waters off the coast of Daufuskie Island. Watch as the nets drag across the seafloor. After this comes the real fun as you help the crew sort through the day's catch on the sorting table. There will be a lot of bi-catch or other fish, sharks, and even stingrays that get caught in the net. The crew will go over what type of by-catch you should look out for, and will safely return these sea creatures to the waters. You get to take the freshest locally caught Carolina shrimp home with you to cook. The amount of shrimp isn't guaranteed as this is fishing, but it will be divided evenly among the parties aboard.
