What people are saying about Iztaccihuatl

Overall rating

based on 120 reviews

Climbing the Iztaccíhuatl is only suitable for experienced hikers/mountaineers but is totally worth it. You should have high altitude experience and be well trained. Sometimes you reach your own limits here and only make it up with a strong will and good guides. The ascent is very diverse with steep and flat hiking trails, climbing and also passing the glacier with crampons. Since the shape of the volcano resembles a sleeping woman, small peaks have to be crossed before the main peak. The company was great and treated me well. In the end, I have my three guides to thank for reaching the summit. Thank you for that and clear recommendation.

My family of 5 and I booked a trip with Travesias Mexico to climb on Iztaccihuatl. The business is an established business with a physical office in the La Condesa neighborhood. Their office has a range of outdoor gear for renting if needed. The guides were very nice and knowldgeable. They had both had a lot of experience in the area as hikers / climbers / guides. They were accommodating to my family's needs and abilities during the trip. I would definitely do a trip with this group again and I highly recommend them. Mike C Seattle, USA

Our hike began at 3,500 m. With every step you could feel the thin mountain air. So please only book if you are reasonably fit and sporty. And on site, of course, only go as far as is good for you. Shoes with a good profile should also be clear. And then you will be rewarded with a wonderful view, physical challenge and great vegetation.

Patient guide. Much more difficult than even an athlete would expect. Virtually no chance of strength or especially time to get to summit. Goal should be 13,000 feet. Download altimeter app. Take 64-80 ounces if water. Wrap feet heavily. Hiking shoes because you will slide on your butt a lot if rhe way down without them.

One of the best guides I ever had and I had many :) Super fun, felt very safe and amazing background informations! Super Service, especially they prepared a picnic at the end of the tour, super exciting and great surprise :)
