Riga: Guided Hiking Adventure

4. Riga: Guided Hiking Adventure

You will be picked up from your hotel in Riga at 9:00AM, from where you will travel to where the city meets the sea, Daugavgriva. You’ll see the different face of the city of Riga on your way, as you travel through Bolderaja, the most distant city district. Here you will witness a town that differs from other parts of Riga, where Soviet legacy overlaps with old wooden architecture. You will then go for a fun hike (5 kilometers both ways) in the “Piejura" Nature Park to the Daugavgriva Lighthouse and back. If the weather allows, you will walk through the  Daugavgriva mall in the sea. The biggest river of Latvia Daugava (or as the locals call it the “River of Destiny”) ends in the Gulf of Riga here. On the way back from the Daugavgriva Lighthouse, you’ll see old military bunkers hidden in the dunes. This place holds a lot of historic secrets, and was closed for regular visitors during the Soviet era. After your hike through Daugavgriva, you will visit another big river that separates Riga and the neighboring Jurmala cities. The scenery will be different there, as it is less rough and more natural than in Daugavgriva. This is your next hiking location, where you will hike for approximately 5 kilometers through pristine coastal pine forest. I went on this trip on 16th of February and I was so lucky to have an amazing trip, albeit it was in the winter-time. Roland was my guide and he picked me up at the preset time. He was an amazing guide who had much to offer on both the nature and Latvia. I would definitely recommend this tour for people who enjoy hiking and exploring different forms of nature that isn’t seen in your normal everyday outdoors. We went to both Kelmeri National Park, the beach, wet forest and a lagoon. It was very beautiful, and winter definitely did something beautiful for the nature. Along the way, Roland had prepared local snacks and it was a fun way to show the country as well.

This was a wonderful Tour with an outstanding guide. Hiking to beautiful places. Having a great picknick. We got so much information on the country, its nature and culture and history. And even tips for our next days in Riga. In the end we could visit the new and very interesting Jurmala museum. A full day. We have got even more than promised. Highly recommended.

Such a wonderful way to get in touch with nature! The walk through the forested pathway was magical and the silence was absolute priceless to a city life person like me. Kemeri National Park is a must-visit - regardless of season. I am sure visitors to the park will be greeted and treated to an array of sights, colors and sound over the different seasons.

Great experience. Tour guide was excellent gave us lots of information and also brought typical Latvian food to try

very fulfilled, even you go in winter, it's still highly recommended
