Discover a network of 13 gorges carved into billion-year-old sandstone rock by the Katherine River of Nitmiluk National Park on this scenic full-day sightseeing tour from Darwin. During the tour you will learn about the Aboriginal culture abundant in the area and see rock art sites dotted throughout the park. With its rugged landscapes, dramatic waterfalls, and lush gorges, the Nitmiluk National Park is a haven for nature lovers, with plentiful flora and fauna. Travel south through tropical country, passing former World War II airstrips en route to the Adelaide River. Make a short stop at the Adelaide River War Cemetery to pay your respects to those killed in the air raids of Darwin in the 1940s. Continue to Edith Falls for a refreshing swim in the paperbark and pandana-lined waterhole (conditions permitting). After an inclusive lunch, enjoy a 2-hour scenic cruise through the Katherine Gorge, looking for freshwater crocodiles sunning themselves on the banks of the river. Keep your eyes open for the many interesting species of birdlife. Enjoy a brief tour of Katherine, hub of the region’s cattle and farming industries. Then, travel via the historic mining town of Pine Creek to an evening stop along the Adelaide River. From May through September lunch can be taken on board your cruise, while dinner is available at your own expense at the evening stop, before your transfer back to Darwin.

Explore one of Top End's most beautiful natural attractions at Nitmiluk National Park. Relax on a scenic boat cruise through Katherine Gorge, followed by a visit to Edith Falls. Depart Darwin in the early morning and travel south along the Stuart Highway through the townships of Adelaide River and Pine Creek. Take in the views of native flora and fauna, endemic to the Northern Territory region, as your guide provides historical and cultural commentary throughout the trip. Then board the Katherine Gorge (Nitmiluk) boat cruise, where you will journey along the river surrounded by stunning cliffs measuring up to 70m high, with the sun’s natural lighting providing ever-changing colors throughout the landscape and rock formations.  Hear about the culture and stories of the traditional owners of the land, the Jawoyn people of Katherine, as you are guided through this wonderful area before you disembark. Visit the Nitmiluk Visitor Centre to learn more about the history of the local area. Then, head towards the picturesque Edith Falls (Leliyn) area where you can take a refreshing dip in the huge natural plunge pool or relax and take in the beauty of your surroundings, before your relaxing journey back to Darwin city center.

Over a full 3 days you will engage in activities, discussions and moments designed to not just show you a good time but allows you to get an understanding and appreciation of the region. A region which is diverse, challenging, beautiful, yet raw when viewed through the prism of mainstream society. A wealth of interest points there for discussion and plenty of time to become part of the landscape and discuss. Begining the adventure you will be picked up from your accommodation in Darwin and from there journey down the Stuart Highway to the small hamlet of Adelaide River. Here you will get to enjoy the delectable home-made mango muffins and morning tea amongst the sobre memorial to those killed in WWII on the Top End. Afterwards it is a direct path to Katherine where we will get settled into our accommodation for our stay over the next 2 nights. Once set up we deep dive into the region. Key components of this are: - 4 hour sunset dinner cruise on Nitmiluk Gorge - Visiting the Katherine Museum - Join in with Tom Curtain for ‘Katherine Outback Show’. Cowboy entertainment with a musical twist ! - Wander through Cutta Cutta Caves. These enigmatic marvels of limestone tell a curios story of prehistoric life in Top End. Home to many bats and elusive creatures of the dark. - Soak in Katherine Hot Springs. Your bones will enjoy an afternoon wallowing in these thermal joys ! - Sit with Manual at Top Didj where he tells stories of his life and times as well as lead you through painting and perhaps even the skills of fire lighting. An interactive fun morning. There is also a comprehensive art and artifact gallery on-site from which you will be able to peruse and perhaps purchase authentic pieces for your collection. - Savour local foods and wares. - Visit the Landmark town of Pine Creek on the edge of the outback and the site of the original NT GOLD RUSH. Home also to the train that featured in the movie ‘We of the Never Never’ . A quaint and interesting place to spend some time. Once satisfied goals we should be back in Darwin around 6 pm on Day 3. Your choice where you want to be dropped off.

It was an amazing and unforgettable day, started with a energizing swim in Edith Falls follow by a delicious gourmet lunch in a beautiful location overlooking the National Park and to top it off a very enjoyable and informative cruise through the Katherine gorge. Just unbelievable. Loved every minute of it. Delightful! The staff was very friendly and helpful.

I enjoyed the cruise at Nitmiluk and swimming at Edith falls however I felt like time dragged on abit in.regards to stopping and I think our time could have been longer at Edith falls. good value for money though I do recommend it

Great tour, well balanced activities, adorable and fantastic guide (bus driver) and very good guide on the boat at Katherine Gorge as well. Very informative tour. Excellent buffet at lunch.

Absolutely awesome tour. Had the best day. Definitely recommend doing. Bus driver was awesome as well. He really looked after us well and his driving skills were second to none.
